Bleeding from the back passage

I'm so sorry for TMI. About a year ago I bled heavily from my back passage for about a day. It stopped. I put it out of my mind. On Tuesday I moved some heavy boxes - shoving with all my weigh. That night I had what can only be described as diahorrea but it was all blood. For around 4 hours. Since then around every 4 hours I expel a large amount of fresh blood. I can't see or feel anything unusual and there is no pain. Do I need to see someone or is it just a burst vessel? It just doesn't seem to be stopping. I'm just so embarrassed it doesn't hurt so is it fine?

No - go and see a GP

Yes you need to have this checked. The most likely cause is an anal fissure or some internal piles but it's important anything nasty is ruled out.

You need to see a doctor ASAP.

Don't be embarrassed, HCPs look at bottoms every day, it may be a harmless fissure or piles, or an infection, but it could need treating .

I thought you'd say that. I really hate the thought of seeing someone. Vagina? Not a problem! Bum? Cringe...

Please phone 111 and get their advice, it could be nothing it might be something that needs treatment.

Sorry, to clarify no it isn't fine just because it doesn't hurt. You need to seek medical advice. Doctors are totally desensitised when it comes to talking about bums. Honestly, there's nothing to be embarrassed about.

If you're losing a large amount of blood every four hours you really should ring your out if hours GP or 111 for advice.

111 will not say it doesn't need seeing.

As an HCP, I don't find bums any worse than vaginas, if that helps at all

I can't phone 111 as I don't live in the uk. I live in the Middle East so I need either my husband or a chaperone to be examined by a male dr. My husband is away. There also isn't really a GP thing here so you usually see specialists. I actually have no idea who I'm supposed to see! I have great medical insurance just don't want to see several people for such a problem!

If you have to see a specialist it needs to be a gastroenterologist or colorectal surgeon who can look in your back passage.

It really is important to get checked.

You need to see a colorectal surgeon or gastroenterologist. They will likely perform a sigmoidoscopy to take a look. That does sound like quite a lot of blood to lose, I imagine it's probably a burst vessel or fistula but it needs looking at.

I feel absolutely fine! It is a scary amount of blood to look at. I'm an ex copper so I'm more realistic in how much blood there is rather than seeing it and panicking. I'd say between a tablespoon and an egg cup full each time. The tablespoon being more common.

I had this the other day OP, about the same amount of blood. It's last two days, went away, then came back. It's really grim

It's pregnancy related piles in my case due to pressure from the baby (30w pregnant), but I don't see how carrying boxes could cause the same damage to you internally so definitely get it checked.

Actually, at any stage did you have any boxes or heavy weight resting on your lower back? Or was your back pressed against something to help you push the weight?

I was pushing boxes across the floor with my full weight. I'm 14 stone so you can imagine how much the boxes must have been! They were full of books. I didn't pick them up or hold them in any way.
