Nurse said not to give MMR booster because someone in our home is immunocompressed.

She is checking with a specialist, but at ds2s pre school booster appointment she said not to give this vaccine because my DM who lives with us is very poorly with cancer and the after effects of radiotherapy.

I think it's because it's a live vaccine.

I'm pleased because I wouldn't have thought about it and don't want to subject DM to additional risks, but what about ds? It's his booster, so he's not unprotected. But will he able to have it at a later date? Does it matter what age he is when he has this booster?

Anyone got any experience/thoughts?

It is in these kind of circumstances that the assumption is made that everyone around your DS is vaccinated, so that herd immunisation will keep him safe. Sadly though, some parents choose not to vaccinate their children without valid reasons, so that does increase the risk.

He should be able to have it at a later date without any problems though.

She had a booklet thing that she went through with a decision tree and that's what made her say it. She did say it might be ok, but best to check.

He starts pre school in September at the primary school, so I'd be happier if he was fully vaccinated by then.

The booster is really just to catch the ~10% of people that aren't immune from the first dose so he may be immune anyway.
