PAINFUL TESTICLES

My DH has had really painful testicles since before Christmas. GP said twice that he thought it may the start of a hernia but would not offer anything until it got worse! DH went to see different GP who said in a round about way that it should not have been left so long without treatment. He gave hime antibiotics and arranged for an x-ray. DH is worried sick and is in such pain day and night (worse at night). X ray is this Friday. He also has a tingling pain in armpits which comes and goes (not sure if any connection but started around same time). Has anyone had any similar experiences?

Could it be mumps? Has he had any signs of a virus / generally unwell? Has he had mumps as a child/been immunized? Definitely important to make sure this is properly investigated. Testicular pain is excrutiating. - Does a cool pack help? (Small pack of frozen peas wrapped in a soft cloth) Poor thing - i hope he feels better soon.

Forgot to say - ultra sound scan would be a better option - is that what he is going to have?

3littlefrogs · 31/01/2007 09:37

Any swollen glands in neck or armpits?

Bowbelles · 31/01/2007 15:14

thanks for info everyone - sorry i've just gone in from work and going back out in half an hour. He was doing a lot of running Moyasmum but obviously has not be able to continue with that since this pain. No swelling in other gland areas frogs - but does have "tingling" in the armpits? Otherwise generally well apart from not sleeping through both pain and worry! Not sure if he's had mumps - do symtoms sound similar? Thanks for your help.

It is an ultrasound he's having today 3litfrgs.

Glad to hear that - plain Xray not much use for testicles. Ultrasound scan will pick up just about anything. Hope it goes ok. I am off to work now, but will check back this evening to see how it went. Good luck!

Thanks for you kind words 3litfrogs. Ultrasound today went well and has put his mind at rest a bit. The radiographer(?) could not feel anything, but did say he has a couple of little cysts. He also said it could be something to do do with the vasectomy he had (last April!). He has to see his GP in 2 weeks for results but is much happier now as was thinking he had something really nasty.
He had been to his own GP a couple of times over the past few months as he was in such pain, but GP thought it was the start of a hernia and basically said to put up with it! I eventually persuaded him to see another GP who immediately arranged the scan for today - he said it should not have been left so long. DH wouldn't see someone else initially as he felt disloyal to his own GP. (He hasn't had mumps either but this was not mentioned).
Thanks so much for your help everyone.

Some men do get this sort of pain after vasectomy - ther have been one or two articles in the medical press about this recently. I think it is rare. I do hope he manages to get it all sorted out. At least the radiographer didn't see anything worrying - usually anything really serious shows up during the scan.

Oh how strange my dp has been going through exactly the same thing. In nov he was really sore and eventually went and saw gp, she gave him anti biotics and told him to come back.

He went back 2 weeks later with lump still there and v painful so she referred him for ultrasound. What did annoy me was that she mentioned cancer to him but didnt refer him on a cancer query form so it was 6 weeks before he was seen.

Radiographer said that couldnt see anythign abnormal and that it looked like scar tissue from a vasectomy he had few years back and then we had it reversed.

He still has some soreness now but they have never referred him for any more treatment as I suppose if they open him up to remove scar tissue lump another one will prob form in its place.

My DH automatically thought he had cancer and that is why he left going to GP for so long. It doesn't help when his own GP is very unsympathetic and says to put up with it for a while!
He only had to wait 2 weeks for US Claire but what a long 2 weeks. He does feel a lot happier now that Radiographer has said there are no huge lumps. He will have to wait for another 2 weeks for results though.
What's your DP going to do now? Will he have more investigation?

I think so if he ever gets round to going to the docs again.

yes it was the most stressful time weve had, especially as it was just before xmas and the xmas before I lost my grandma to cancer on 22nd dec, he had lost his ex father in law to cancer in june and his gradmother in august, all diagnosed too late and they all died within 2 weeks.

very BLOODY scary!!
