Is this thrush? Warning, TMI

Aaaaaaagh! This is fairly personal but I can't be bothered to change my name.

I just finished a course of anti-biotics yesterday (for an ear infection) and since Sunday I've had a sore fanjo. It's itchy and very raw feeling, but everything is very dry and I imagined that thrush would cause discharge or something.

On the basis that it might have been thrush I applied some natural yoghurt this morning, and apart from an initial sharp intake of breath at the acidity of it on my raw skin it definitely made everything much better until about midday.

What should I do now? Keep on with the yoghurt or is it not thrush but something else entirely?

In the spirit of tmi, I would put your finger up there and see what comes out. If I have thrush it is red and dry on the outside, but has what looks like cottage cheese on the inside.

I am not advocating that as the definitive test btw, just what happens with me!

Thanks KezzaG, I might save that particular test until I get home as I'm sitting (well figeting rather than sitting really) at my desk at work.

What do you normally do about treating it, do I need to visit the pharmacist or do you think regular applications of yoghurt will do the trick?

OOh I love a thread with tmi!!!

The cottage cheese thing applies to me too. Sometimes, if caught early enough there will be a sore fanjo but no cottage cheese.

You need canesten pronto girl. And no sex or dh/dp will gte it.

You can buy Canesten once OTC and taht is 1 pill taht clears it all up. The cream will ease the itching though.

Thanks Northener, I'll go by the chemist on the way home then.

Sorry, but this yoghurt thing reminds me of the catherine Tate sketch where she used crunch corner instead oof natural yougurt

STOP making me laugh at work. I work with men and I don't want to have to explain why I'm laughing.

whatever you do dont buy the canestan pessary. They are tablets that you push up your fanjo and you wee out what feels like bits if sand for days. OWWWWW
The canestan oral tablets are best

KezzaG · 30/01/2007 16:35

LOL at crunch corner. At least it might alleviate the itching, a bit of friction and all that.

Canestan is the way to go, but prepare to be ripped off, its costs a bleedin fortune.

I get very itchy and swollen/sore down below when I have thrush, and never get it apart from in pregnancy!

Had it loads of times when I was expecting ds2, and never once had the discharge. Canestan cream for the itching and the tablets for getting rid of it.

Hope you get some relief soon!

Sounds like that's definitely what it is then, thanks everyone.
