ds3 has some pox spots inside his mouth that are causing him some distress. He's 4. Can I use Bonjela or do I need to get something else?

Bless him. I had this as an adult and it is horrid, horrid, horrid.

Your pharmacist should be able to advise on this (mine was much more use than my doctor in OKing things to treat the spots, which can go into any orrifice on the body. Horrid!!)

I found that cutting grapes in half and then mixing them with a green jelly, set as normal in the fridge, was fantastically soothing for the spots inside my throat - they may help his mouth too. The grapes were much cooler than the jelly - perhaps just keeping your grapes in the fridge would help too.

I also found that piriton helped, though again, check with the pharmacist for a little one, expecially if he is taking anything else. It reduced some of the itching and, of course, helped me sleep much more too.

How far in is he? (Chicken pox spots arrive in three waves, often affecting three different areas of the body. If I remember rightly the waves come 3 days apart. I had spots from head to toe and looked like something from Dr Who!!) Big hug for your ds.

I don't have any grapes - do you think I could nip into Tesco to get some?

Today is day 4 for him. I haven't noticed any new spots today and many are now crusting over.

The itching is driving him insane, despite being dosed up to the max with piriton. He refuses to let me put any more calamine on him too which does not help.

Spome of the spots are almost the size of a 5p piece, never seen anything like it.

So, would bonjela be ok?

Aww your poor ds my ds has them atm too. Can I ask you what the spots look like inside the mouth? Only i've never had chicken pox and i've been feeling not quite right for days and since yesterday have an extremley sore tongue and it has red spots all over it that are very sore this isn't it is it? I know what you mean about some of them being huge ds had a huge one on his wrist, he knocked it last night and it burst and now he has two huge ones on his wrist.

Can you phone your pharmacist to ask about Bonjela? I'm no expert, though it must have local anaesthetic in, so could be good, as long as it's safe for him.

Are you letting him soak in the bath for ages? That helped cool the itching lots too.

Good luck ledoggy. If it is chickenpox, the doctor will probably not want to see you, but it is worth googling/checking out medical advice. In rare cases, be dangerous for adults who overdo things. It is essential if you get it, to ensure that you get lots of rest. It's quite a powerful virus apparently and it can put a strain on the heart if you try to carry on as normal, if you have it badly.

Oops, that should be Ledodgy

Thank you. Luckily i've actually taken a course of anti viral medication this year to prevent any cold sore outbreaks and i've heard this is the same medicine they give adulyts with chicken pox to lessen the effects so hopefully this will help. I was just getting dd ready for pre school and have notcied she has some spots too. Looks like i'm going to be housebound again this week!
