Ds asthma flare up.

On arriving home from our holiday in France, my 12 year old DS's asthma has suddenly flared up dramatically. I'm currently giving him 10 puffs every hour (as a hospital admission would do) and it is under control, but he is still wheezy. I am confused as to what the trigger could be.
Has anyone else found a change after a holiday or similar? He didn't need his inhaler at all on holiday.

Seriously, he needs to be seen, I would expect him to be started on steroids at minimum but possibly kept in or given nebuliser

Could be a pollen, could be that the house is dusty after you being away, could be the change in climate.

It could be a lot of things, you need to get it under control for now and then worry about the cause.

We have had lots of trips to A&E over the years and I am keeping a close eye on him. 10 puffs every hour seems to be the recommended course of action (from NHS Direct) and then obviously if no improvement we will go to A&E again.
It maybe the pollen - he has hayfever aswell. I'll try antihistamines.

If needing inhalers every hour then he needs checking

Please get him checked, asthma kills people every day and even though you are monitoring him it can turn so suddenly. These are warning you that things aren't right, please don't ignore that warning

If needing 240 puffs of ventolin in a day then he should be in hospital, on steroids and being monitored

What will you do tonight while you both sleep?

He is improving. I've spoken to NHS Direct and am following their advice. If he is till wheezy in the morning I'll get an emergency appointment with our GP.
DS will wake in the night if he is having trouble, and in this case we will just go to A&E. I promise I do not take any risks at all with him.

Do you have pets? This happened to a friend's dc & it was a severe animal allergy. Returning to the environment with the pet after a break caused an attack requiring hospital.
