I am self employed, but have rearranged appointments for tomorrow.

Today I am a pretty grusome sight and should not be inflicted on the world but I am intending to go tomorrow. i will be careful not to touch my eyes.

maybe wear goggles

If youve been on antibiotics a while I still think work should be ok. But others clearly feel strongly that it's not the case. If I were you I'd phone your GP for advice.

SmileysPeople · 29/01/2007 14:59

I'm not on anti biotics.

Ds had it 2 weeks ago,we just did the salt water bathing and it went within a few days.

Didn't know anti biotics necessary.

fennel · 29/01/2007 15:02

The advice we have had from GPs, and the rule at our nursery, was that they were fine to go to nursery as long as they were already having antibiotic treatment for the conjunctivitis. Once they were on the eye drops, nursery would allow them back.

potoroo · 29/01/2007 15:23

OK - stupid question here, but how do you tell the difference between conjunctivitis and having gummy eyes from a cold (particularly annoying).

(DS often gets gummy sticky eyes when he gets a cold, but it is never red or sore.)

fortyplus · 29/01/2007 15:40

You've answered your own question!
Red, sore - usually very itchy.

SmileysPeople · 29/01/2007 15:42

Any one. Do I need anti biotics?

or just the drops and washing?

potoroo · 29/01/2007 15:46

Thanks 40plus. That's what I thought but I wanted to check.
I think my post was worded a bit strangely. You must excuse me - I am pregnant and my brain has fallen out.

Flumpytina · 29/01/2007 16:03

Hi Brandy, I'm stuck indoors with both dd's with conjunctivitis (plus dd1 with ear infection). Oh what a joy. Have watched tubbies twice already today. IQ steadily diminishing by the hour. Know how you feel!

brandy7 · 29/01/2007 17:10

Thankyou...mine dosed up to the eyeballs (literally and metaphorically) with antibiotics, calpol & eyedrops.

Hope you have a scream free night too!!

SodWork · 29/01/2007 18:43

No, I wouldn't

Mercy · 29/01/2007 18:49

SmileysPeople. I had conjunctivitus a couple of years ago and was prescribed an anti-biotic eye-gel. It worked in about 12/18 hours.

My eye was very sore tbh. The Dr that saw told me to be very careful re washing hands, tea-towels, preparing food etc.

I went to see an out-of-hours Dr about something else and he said he was far more concerned re my gungy eye!

poppiesinaline · 29/01/2007 18:58

this thread has made me think.... DS2 has a bad cold and ear infection. His eyes are very watery and bloodshot. GP said that was just because of the cold. They are not 'gungy' though. Do you reckon he has conjuctivitis? He doesnt seem to be itching them at all so I asssumed not.

Mercy · 29/01/2007 19:07

Poppies, I think conjuntivitus is at least an irritable sensation and at worst downright painful. But I think the gunge factor is the worrying one.

Sorry not much help, but I think (hope!) your GP would be able to spot the difference.

Hope ds gets better soon.

jenkel · 29/01/2007 19:12

I was pretty sure that if you were on the prescribed eye drops for more than 12 hours then your not infectious. In fact that is what my GP told me. But, if you had not seen a GP and was just on over the counter stuff that probably isnt the same.

poppiesinaline · 29/01/2007 19:18

thanks Mercy

fortyplus · 30/01/2007 10:06

potoroo - lol at pg brain falling out! I remember it well... and I haven't been pg for 11 years! You just wait till you're heading for the menopause - it's 10x worse!
