Nappy rash food related?

Is anyone aware of any foods that might induce nappy rash, or make it worse?

DS has had it for a few months on and off- there one day, better the next. He had a nasty reaction to oranges, which gave him a rash and stomach cramps, but i've made sure he's had none since.

Any ideas? Sudocream made it worse, have also tried Metanium and Drapoline. Had enough now! (As has DS!)

DetentionGrrrl, dd was the same, sudocream caused a major reaction and made everything worse. In her case it was anything acidic, i.e. organges as you found out , strawberries, juice and quite often no apparent reason except for maybe teething.

I got a cream from back home (Germany) called desitin which really helped, not sure whether you can get it in the uK though. Also might be worth taking ds to the GP. When dd was at her worst she actually had and infection as well so she was prescribed a antifungal/antibiotic cream.

Good luck, I know it's awful to look at the poor lo's sore bottom

ps also did luke warm sitting baths with chamomille tea and used aloe vera gel

Thanks MrsBidD

I'll try camomile tea in his bath. Could strawberry petits filous be enough to set it off do you think?- they're his new favourite food.

if they have real strawberries in them it might be. Only way to find out is to stop giving them to him which is hard I know, dd LOVES strawberries and anything flavoured that way

hi DG (waves to MrsB)

i found my dd suffers if she has apple or apple related things at tea time.

other than that it's always been teething related.

during the day i use sudocreme but overnight i use vaseline as it provides a complete barrier. stops any pain from any overnight weeing which helps her sleep etc.

i find it's the best and quickest way to clear up the most stubborn nappy rash.

i have been relatively lucky tho, it's pretty much always teeth related these days.

hth and good luck!

This is one of the symptoms of dd's milk intolerance. If he's been having lots of petit filous (as an aside, you do know they are packed with sugar don't you?) then it could be the dairy in them.

DetentionGrrrl · 29/01/2007 08:52

He has been teething for months- never seems to end.

He's got a check up in a few days, and i'm dreading it. The HV always makes me feel like the only reason he'd have nappy rash is because i'm useless. She always recomends sudocream, then wrinkles her nose when i tell her (again) that it makes it worse. The says i can't be drying him properly, or using wipes (when i'm not!)

Canstarvewillstarve- are there any yogurts / fromage frais without sugar added?

Have read that tomato and citrus can cause it- he not had either for at least a week. Other suspect could be dairy...any thing else?

my dd gets toxic teething wee and poo which seems to burn her poor little behind
don' know about diet related, but canesten cream really cleared it up and would also recommend the camomile. sage tea as well is a natural antiseptic

I'm not sure dg - dd is milk intolerant so they aren't something we look at. Have a feeling that someone said that the rachels organic ones were ok, but don't take my 3rd hand word for it without checking! I just know that lots of dentists have commented on petit filous especially (think it's 3 teaspoons per pot ).

DetentionGrrrl · 29/01/2007 09:08

what?! Oh dear.

I DO brush his 2 teeth at night, and the rest of his food is homemade (no jars etc) and no juice.

He has dentist appointment soon, will ask then
