My 2 year old is poorly again. I honestly can not remember the last time he was 100% well. He also has small spots on his trunk aswell. He has diarrhea also, but he's had that for the last 6 months, they think it may be cealiacs disease. But can anyone tell me what the blotches could be? They fade when pressed. The doctors must be so p**sed off with me, I've been down there loads recently with dd!

Aw, poor wee soul.
Could it be measles?
What makes you think it's coeliacs?

happy1 · 07/06/2004 16:08

We think he has cealiacs cos of his diarhhea. He has been taken off dairy, which didn't improve it, anything with saccharin in it, which causes diarrhea in some people. Also my sister has cealiacs disease and it can run in families. Would he still get measles even though hes had MMR jab?

Could it be heat rash? Or German measles? Hope he's feeling better soon. My ds had diarrhoea for ages - but wasn't ill with it - I put it down to 'toddler diarrhoea' which apparently lots of boys have. Just really really loose stools, which fill an entire nappy. Not pleasant, but wasn't a health problem. One of the causes can be too much apple juice, but ds only had water, so it was just one of those things!

happy1 · 07/06/2004 16:14

I don't think it's heat rash as that is usually in skin creases. I really don't know. I'm taking him to the doctors later.

Yes he could still get measles -- MMR is only so effective (90%?). How big are the blotches? It sounds like heat rash, but little spots could be so many things. TBH, if it was me, I'd be worried about meningitus (small risk, but it's not something you want to miss). It's just the way the spots fade when you press them. Can you take him to a walk-in clinic?

smellymelly · 07/06/2004 16:32

They can get measles even if they have had the MMR jab, as it doesn't mean your child is fully immune, it is supposed to be milder though.

smellymelly · 07/06/2004 16:33

Also 102 degrees sounds very high, I would get him to a Doctor asap.

the rash could be viral. My friends daughter had a viral infection lately, high temp and very blotchy body (like menengitis spots, bt disappeared) and it turned out it was viral. If you are worried go to your doctors, better to be safe than sorry. I know how worrying it is though, my eldest was terrible at this age, she was a bug magnet

no the spots dont fade with meningitus. I asssume zeb has made a typing error, as I always do!

Fio2 · 07/06/2004 16:37

yes we were told that by the hospital. Give calpol (max dose) if the temp doesnt come down aftyer an hour give nurofen (max dose). Keep toweling him down in a wet towel aswell, poor thing

Piffleoffagus · 07/06/2004 16:59

I'd be going for a doctor myself... could well be measles though, very high temp is a deffo measles symptom...
I'd be worried about the headche too...

zebra · 07/06/2004 17:17

oops, I was confused about the spots. I really ought to "know" these things by now in my sleep! Teach me to keep quiet.

happy1 · 07/06/2004 18:26

I've just got him back from the doctors and he's got rubella. Poor little thing, it's just one thing after another for him at the moment.

Aw Happy1 - I honestly thought you couldn't get that if you had had MMR!

Ah well, I had it when I was 10 and wasn't really that ill. Just had a fever for a couple of days and a rash for ages! I wasn't allowed back to school until the rash disappeared so I got about a week off..... which I totally milked!

I'm sure he'll be fine in a few days poor wee mite.

Jaybee · 08/06/2004 10:47

Poor thing - at least you know what it is - also, has he been in contact with anyone who could be pregnant? If so, you probably should warn them.
