and if so what can i substitute the milk for in DD's morning and nightime bottle? Her diarrhea seems to get considerably worse immediately after a bottle (esp in the morning). Shes 2yo btw, and loves her bottles otherwise i would just cut them out altogether until shes over it! plus i need to keep her drinking lots of fluids and her bottles are a good way to keep her drinking.

thanks x

I could be wrong, but I remember reading somewhere that dairy in general should be avoided with an upset tum as it aggravates the system - rather, try to keep her hydrated with water and clear soups etc until she is better.

A tummy bug destroys the lactase in the stomach which is needed to digest lactose found in dairy produce. You need to avoid dairy for 48 hrs after it clears up, but I have found with our dds that this can continue for much longer and eventually they will need dairy again.

Avoid dairy products and eggs.

Her tummy bug will clear up a lot quicker if you keep her on clear fluids. If mine have a tummy bug I usually give them cooled boiled water.
You can replace lost salts by letting her have plain crisps - my GP told me that!

Flat coke is also good for rehydration.

The non dairy advice has been questioned but at her age she doesn't need it so much so would definitley avoid for a day or two if you can . Funnily "live" yoghurt may help but otherwise clear fluids are better short term - flat coke, herbal tea, water , dioralyte etc
