Ear infection?????

I think DS2(7 months) is teething, usual signs - dribbling, strong smelling wee, bit of a temperature, red cheek and general crabbiness. But earlier today his ear was bright red and when I touched it, he went ballistic - similarly when I pulled his bib off over his head.
We've given him medised and its brought his temp down and the redness has gone.
So, do you think the ear thing is due to the teething? I would have thought if he had an ear infection, he would be pulling at his ear and be a lot poorlier in general?
Thanks

Hi if he has an ear infection he will have a really high temp and probably scream uncontrollably - thats usually what happens when mine have one. You will need probably calpol and neurophen alternatively every 2 hrs to control the temp and then antibiotics. I'm no doctor but as I say this is what usually happens if mine have had an ear infection

Lisa see my how high is high temp thread - my littleun is giving me the same qoes!

I can't decide if he is poorly or not and think it is probably teething

Hugs to your hot boy

It soared to 102 at teatime so I rang NHS direct and they said to ring the doctors
I did and he said to bring him in, which we did. They examined him pretty thoroughly - eyes, ears, nose and throat, meningitis etc and can't find any evidence of an infection - but he went beserk when the doctor looked in his ears
So its back to temperature control and wait and see - and just to put the icing on the cake, my maternity leave ends today and I am back at work tomorrow
Fortunately, DH is on a late and I am only working mornings this week, so he will only be at the cm for 1 - 2 hours and at least if he needs the doctor, either I or DH can take him
Poor little lamb, I feel so rotten for him

This is a little late as you've been to the gp already, but my two have totally different symptoms when they have ear infections. My ds gets 104/105 temperature and goes all lethargic and sleepy. My dd screams alot and has almost no temperature at all (99/100). In fact one time I didn't even realize she had an ear infection (as she is a bit of a screamer anyway) and only found out because she was at the doctors for a jab and they looked in her ears.

with the greatest of respect, "ihad hearing problems, GP saw nothing , used nasal spray, ear popped" proves absolutely nothing, least of all the idea that GPs can't diagnose ear infection. Surely it is good your GP did not fob you off with antibiotics? I really respect my GP for saying ashe has done that he can't see the reason for smething and offering no active traeatment.
A plus B then C does not nec mean that A+B has CAUSED C.
Glad you feel better.
