Can children catch them or is my house so dirty I am poisining them? Ds was sick in the night a whole week ago followed by 7 days of diar...can't spell it! then today a week on ds has started it in the same way. What do you think? Am getting a bit paranoid but am very careful with hygenine I think!

i think they catch them from each other, after my ds started daycare we had everything going he would get from some kid at nursery and then i would catch it from him!! it was an awful year (but i did lose a stone might send dd could do to lose that baby weight)

as for hygeine in your home unless you have rotton food lying around eerywhere or let your pets s**t on the side imo i think it's good for their immune systems!!

Berrie · 25/01/2007 13:16

Thanks I could do with losing a stone (or two!) glad there is a possible bright side to all these vile nappies. No pets but couldn't guarentee that dd doesn't sometimes fish out a morsel of old food from goodness knows where!Serves me right for letting them wander round with food I suppose.

i was just going to start a thread on this dd has had this since tues, how long do i let her go with diarrhea (sp) shes 18 months old.she hasn't eaten since tues morning but is drinking.

tinkerbellie · 25/01/2007 13:35

when i took ds to the docs they said as long as he is drinking thats fine but go to the docs at least to put your mind at rest

i read somewhere that they can give you powder to put in there water that is like vitamins supplemnts or something, but they never did at my docs

my dd is a bit like that for eating everything, we have to empty the bin when it is half full otherwise she will pick stuff out and eat it (so gross but she hasn't had a sickness bug yet!"!)

Berrie · 25/01/2007 13:39

I remember when ds had this at a similar age I waited the amount of time the child health book said then rang the doctor tried not to snigger(I felt)when I told her about the timeframe mentioned in the book and said that so long as he was hydrated he would be fine and to keep going. will check the book for you...

thanks berrie, i have just had to give her plain dry toast because she is screaming the house down because shes so hungry. Cant really explain to her you cant eat because it will make you worse. I have also come done with the same bug today so not good.

Berrie · 25/01/2007 13:43

After 24 hours but like I said they were not interested and ds was continually vomiting! DD only has diarrhoea (looked that up too!) but it's been a week now. The poo is no longer pale but still very loose and smelly.

OP posts:
pandagirl03 · 25/01/2007 13:45

thanks for that berrie, dd is no longer being sick, but her poo is like water but yellow colour, sorry if too much information. I really am not sure what to do.

Berrie · 25/01/2007 13:45

Poor you. The book suggests bananna, white rice and other bland foods

pandagirl03 · 25/01/2007 13:46

oh good i will try her with some of those things, its horrible im running out of baby gro's and clothes now

Berrie · 25/01/2007 13:49

Has she pooed in the bath yet? They've both done that! Then I poisined myself by accidentily mixing the cleaning products and burning the back of my throat with the invisible cloud of chlorine it created. It's all fun!

Probably the worst thing is that she has got used to waking in the night and having someone come to her. She was a good sleeper before now she just roars until we give in!

You can get rehydrating solutions from the chemist if she shows signs of becoming dehydrated

no poo in the bath yet, altho she has done that when shes been well, shes been having 3/4 baths a day since tuesday.

Luckily she hasn't woken up in the night but has been going to bed a bit later because of sleeping more in the day time.

Cant wait till dp gets home from work so i can get to bed, he is not home untill 7ppm tho

Mine go on the 'BRAT' diet as soon as a tummy bug is hinted at:

B - banana which settle an acid tummy and has potassium to regulate fluid balance
R - rice which relieves diarrhoea and provides energy and protein
A - apple which is a traditional cure for gastroenteritis
T - toast which helps to settle stomach and provides carbohydrate for energy

Neither of mine will eat banana or apple in its natural state (strange children!) but they will take a banana ans apple juice smoothie.
Currently in the throes of it with DS (14mths) so I sympathise.
