DS 19 months. Best friend (I know strange concept in one so young) has jjust come down with chicken pox. DS has hacking cough, sore ear, runny nose, loose nappies. Can any/all of these be signs of the pox or might they just be unrelated -

I ask because we we are meant to be getting on a long haul flight to the Bahamas on Satuerday to stay with my in laws......

I'm not sure but my 13 month old ds has them atm and before the spots he had a temp for a couple of days and now is just snotty and itchy/uncomfortable. He has a cough as well and the gp said his throat was a bit red.

Don't want to worry you but if it is he may not be allowed to fly.
Copy and pasted:

Chickenpox and flying:
If your child has chickenpox, they may not be allowed to fly during the infectious stage. This is because the air conditioning systems in aeroplane cabins allow germs to circulate easily, and the chickenpox infection can be very dangerous for people with AIDS or a lowered immune system, and pregnant women. Your child should be safe to fly once they are past the infectious stage and the blisters have crusted over, but it?s best to check your airline policy first.
You should inform the airline as soon as you have sought medical advice and had the illness diagnosed. It?s also important to let your insurer know, to make sure that you will be covered if you have to delay or cancel your holiday or if you need to extend your stay until your child is well enough to fly home.

What awful timing for you.

My DD2 has chicken pox at the moment. She had no symptoms before the spots arrived on Saturday. That was exactly two weeks after contact with someone with chicken pox. She's four.

When DD1 had it, DD2 had a bad cold and we were sure she was coming down with it, but didn't. That was 4 years ago.

So I think you can never really tell until the spots appear. I would fly if there are no spots, as in all likelihood your DC doesn't have it. If there are spots, the airline will probably make that decision for you.

Hope you get your holiday.

Thanks ClariceBean

Iam hoping that he has just got yet another iteration of the virus that he has had pretty much all year (vomiting, diarrhea, cough, snotty)........

I have resolved that we will get on the plance unless he is spotty.
