babies and bad reactions to immunisations

Hi! My two month old nephew is just back from hospital. He was given his first immunisations a couple of days ago, and took a funny spell the day after. He basically had a few 'fits' where he arched his back and went rigid, with his face going scarlet. He then went to sleep and my sister had real difficulty waking him. Absolutely terrified (she's a first time mum) my sis took him to the hospital, where they ran several tests and put him on a drip. His heart rate was all over the place, but they couldn't say what was wrong.
My sis is convinced that this was an adverse reaction to the immunisations, but this seemed to worry the docs and they denied it.
The wee man is okay now and is back home. His still very worried mum asked me to come on to 'my forum' and ask if you had experienced/heard of anything similar happening with immunisations.
Many thanks!

LL, I haven't heard of a reaction like that personally but that's not to say it doesn't happen. I'm really concerned every time my DD has injections as they're so tiny and their systems get pumped full of loads of nasty stuff all in one go. My DD has eczema and it definately gets worse afterwards. She also spent the next two days very upset and grizzly which makes me wonder exactly what it's doing to their system. Like socci, it annoys me that Dr's should deny it.

I feel for your sister, I'd have been terrified. Hope they're all feeling better now.

I found this article interesting. www.guardian.co.uk/parents/story/0,,1555135,00.html
