ringworm....advice before this afternoon!!

my friend has just phoned and her daughter has been diagnosed with ringworm (one patch on her face).....i am supposed to be going to see her this afternoon as we go to toddler group together.
the doctor has assured her it is not contagious and that she is fine to socialise her, but everything i've read on the net contradicts that.
has anyone got any words of wisdom? i don't mind my ds socialising with her but am concerned about the conflicting advice, and it's long walk to toddler group to be refused entry if it is considered contagious!

it's fine! I get it quite alot. It's just a fungal infection of the skin. I've never passed it on though it can be passed on with contact.

Can;t imagine there's going to be that much touching of her face. If the mum is really worrid just whack a plaster over it.

It is contagious, though not very, as dd had it and no one else around her seems to have got it. It didn't seem to bother her anyway. It's the same sort of thing as athlete's foot. I use tea tree oil /cream. The doctor and nursery staff thought it was eczema (before it started coming out in rings I I realised what it was) - I don't think there's a huge level of awarness about it.

I would be careful if your lo has eczema as it may be easier to catch. 3 dermatologists thought my DS had it on his face (he gets eczema there) and took a sample. They said he could have caught it off a dog or from someone with athlete's foot leaving their spores on the floor (yuck!). His paediatrician thought it was just infected eczema. Turned out not to be fungal in the end.

I have to say I kept DS away from playing with his chums - would have been really embarrassed if any of them had caught it!
