Can it only mean one thing?
Is it the C word?

What are the chances of surviving lung cancer?
The people I know that had this all died.

Could also be scarring from previous chest infections etc I believe.

ledodgy · 23/01/2007 16:14

hunkermunker · 23/01/2007 16:14

TB, previous chest infections...
You OK?

TeeCee · 23/01/2007 16:16

oh sorry, sugar, should have explained, yes I'm fine, oh bless you all.
My boss's wife.
He's so worried and I'm sat here at work in tears for him, and her. They are like childhood lovers, they are so cute and only have each other (he's late 50's).
Feel so sad and worried for them.

Looking at that link now, thank you.

My dad had a shadow on his lungs about 6 years ago. He had 1/3 of the lung removed but it turned out to be a benign(sp) tumor.they got it all and although he suffers from chest infections he is fine now. Hope everything is ok. xx

TeeCee, I don't know if I can add anything else, but I wanted to offer some reassurance. Are you talking about a shadow on an x-ray? My job is to read x-rays. When doctors refer to 'shadow' IT DOES NOT only mean cancer. It means that something has been seen casting a 'shadow' on the film. It could be anything ranging from not significant at all to the other end of the spectrum. I have a large 'shadow' on my lung at the moment because of a bad viral infection I've got. This will disappear when I get better.

Also when reporting an x-ray the word 'shadow' is seldom used. Somewhere there should be a better discription of the appearance, from which your freind's doctor will be able to plan the next stage of investigation. Maybe it might help your friends to ask the doctor to clarify exactly what he means by 'shadow'.

Regarding your last question, some people do survive cancer of the lung, sorry I don't know the percentage. Outcome depends on so many things. I hope for the best for your friend. And for you too, stay strong.

teecee

My dad has shadows on his lungs for him it is a mixture of infections and fluid also some scarring from previous infections.

He has had x Rays and ct scans and has been told it is not cancer.

roseylea · 23/01/2007 17:30

Hi,

I have shadows on my lungs atm due to mild pnuemonia. I've also had serious pneumonia in the past and I know that the shadows then lingered on the x-rays long after I'd got better. I ended up having to have a CAT scan to get a better idea of what it was - it turned out that there was scarring that took quite a long time to heal. Atm I'm hoping that this current infection stays mild and oesn't get any worse.

That's just me tho. As others have said it could betoken any number of things, so try not to worry.

NotAnOtter · 23/01/2007 17:31
