Just had panic call off of dp, ds has had a few of the cat's Hills dried catfood. Anyone out there know if this is a major cause for alarm!

dd has eaten the odd bonio. I wouldn't worry!

CountessDracula · 04/06/2004 11:43

(as long as she has swallowed them and not stuck in throat as they do expand amazingly when they get wet)

eddm · 04/06/2004 11:44

Yuck! But don't think any major hazard ? there should be a contact number for the manufacturers on the bag just so you can put your mind at rest. Or call your vet, I suppose...

Blackduck · 04/06/2004 11:45

Have to admit my fist reaction was to laugh....I suspect the dog food will be next...

Funnily enough Ds3 asked if he could try a dog choc drop yesterday, I tried to explain that it wasn't reall chocolate but when i turned around there he was holding the bag munching away.....a great big mouth full too.

I'll start to worry if a tail appears but I'll just expect him coat...oh I mean hair so get nice and shiny

Fio2 · 04/06/2004 11:59

mine have eaten dog biscuits and food before and I didnt worry >bad mummy alert

Aero · 04/06/2004 12:07

Don't quote me on this but I once heard that these things had to be fit for human consumption and there are people who taste dogfood for a living (eeeuuuugggghhhh)! If this is true then I don't think you've got anything to worry about! You can always call NHS Direct just in case though.......

Tommy · 04/06/2004 12:21

I've actually heard that you can give dog biscuits to teething babies to chew on so..... a bit of cat food shouldn't be too much of a problem!

I think the cat is a bit pi**ed off....

it is meant to be ok, very low in salt!!!!
It is all cooked to the umpteemth degree so sanitarily speaking it should be ok!

zebra · 04/06/2004 12:58

I used to eat cat & dog food when I was little. Dog food definitely was nicer.
Hmm... you could say that could explain a lot!

NomDePlume · 04/06/2004 13:04

I've often caught DD nibbling on a cat biscuit she's found on the floor. She hasn't come to any harm so far. I've also caught her having a go on the wet food too It's grim, especially when she comes romoping into the living room and gives you a kiss and all you can smell is the warm farts whiff of Whiskas pouches !!

I was also known to help myself to a bit of cat food as a toddler, and I'm fine !

It is perfectly ok as an 'accidental' meal. Despite the smell etc it's clean and well cooked.

discordia · 04/06/2004 13:13

Don't worry, it's harmless! Bet that cat wasn't impressed. For the record, I used to snack on Bonios and Winalot (they were the only foodstuffs I could reach) when I was a tot. Winalot is nicer.

Blackduck · 04/06/2004 13:15

may be I should take it as subtle hint that we are not feeding him enough!

Reminds me of one time I was cooking chilli. I drained the fat off the mince into an empty cat food tin. The kids saw the empty tin and I told them I'd put cat food in the chilli. Surprisingly they still like chilli.

NomDePlume · 04/06/2004 13:20

Discordia !

Reminds me of the bit in Snap Happy by Fiona Walker (book) where she accidentally cooks the dodgy dog mince into a chilli and they end up with passion killing food poisoning !!

blossomgirl · 04/06/2004 13:27

Just wondered if the cat food box had a customer service no on it, they've probably had small people do this before? I wouldn't worry tho'. BTW, in South Africa its well known that coo girls (long nails and lots of jewelry) eat doggy chocs cause they makes their hair shiny!

suedonim · 04/06/2004 15:48

Hills is a very good quality cat food, BD, so your ds's diet will be well balanced!

Blackduck · 04/06/2004 16:05

Just as long as he doesn't get the taste for it...its bl**dy expensive (the cat turns her nose up at anything else...)

oh god I remeber my mum making me a tuna sandwich one day and opening a tin of tuna catfood (which she had in her bonkers way picked up in the supermarket as it was in tuna shaped tin and had Tuna written on the side ) Luckily I spotted it before biting into the sarnie...

Hulababy · 04/06/2004 16:08

DD had a taste of a friend's kittens dry food too. She said she was sharing it! LOL! She was fine though, although the kitten looked a bit miffed

frogs · 04/06/2004 17:54

A friend of mine phoned the petfood company when one of her kids did this, and was told that it was perfectly ok for human consumption. In fact they even had someone at the factory whose job it was to taste the stuff. Yum.

oxocube · 04/06/2004 18:18

Won't do any harm. All 3 of my kids have done same!
