thinking about getting an electric bike

Hi guys i'm really wanting to make a change to my general health and well being, i know exercise has tons of benefits but the problem is there aren't many types of exercise i enjoy! I was thinking of cycling to work so then my exercise becomes part of my day rather than dragging myself to the gym to force myself to do an hour on the treadmill. I was thinking about an electric bike.. this one in particular www.a2bshop.co.uk/Kuo- as I've read a lot of reviews that electric bikes are no where as strenuous on hilly journeys which is what i'll be doing. I was wondering if anyone has an electric bike and likes it/ doesn't like it and any advice from those who do cycle to work?

Do it. Electric bikes are much easier on hills but you are still getting exercise. I would recommend spending as much as you can and if your journey is hilly, try to get a bike with the motor in the bottom bracket and not on the wheel hub, as this provides a much smoother ride.

the raleigh mod us is brilliant

Unless you're disabled, there's no reason to get one. I ride up to 12 miles a day with a portion of it very steep hills and have done for 4 years now...I'm not that fit. It's not that good for weight loss for some reason and I don't eat a massive amount at all.

Violet, that's not particularly helpful is it? not everyone likes exercise, but an electric bike can make it a much more pleasant experience, and stops you getting sweaty and dishevelled.

OP, I am not disabled, but love my electric bike. My DH is a keen cyclist and very fit, and still often borrows my bike for quick trips into town. He loves it too.

I have had mixed opinions but generally most people seem to think electric bikes are a good idea. I agree that you are still getting exercise even if it's not strenuous it all adds up! and i also think they've got to be better for the environment.

Cycling up hills is tough the first few times, but you will get used to it if doing it regularly and will wonder what the fuss was about!

Very interested in this thread as I'm fantasising about an electric Cargo bike or trike to get up serious hills with toddler and/or allotment tools.
