Hello

As some of you may be aware my living conditions at present are causing me a great deal of strain and I am at the end of my fecking tether. Although there is light at the end of the tunnel I really can't keep bursting in to tears, being vicious to the kids then crying again and asking them to be kind to Mum as she's feeling sad. So I think I need something to take the edge off, don't you?

I had previously thought AD's to be the slippery slope to Zombie-dom and a lifelong dependency but my friends tell me they often have a short course when things are stressful and all other avenues of relief have been explored and can come off them with no ill effects. Is this true?

So what are you experiences and are there any side effects to weigh up? If they make me fatter and loose my sex drive then I 'm not having them.

TIA

well, if you must have a drink, at least find another tipple - gin's deffo gonna make you feel worse

good luck and well done for biting the ol' bullet. It doesn't have to be forever remeber, just to get back on an even keel.

sunnywong · 23/01/2007 11:35

OO, I know you're trying to be constructive but I 've bored the tits off MN over this with another thread.

I think I will go to GP who is a friend and knows my situation and take her advice

ok, sorry

the alcohol thing is difficult
you may find yourself feeling better if you stop drinking, as it is a depressant.
on the other hand, in a situation such as you describe, I'd be after a large glass of wine like a rat up a drainpipe.

anyhow, I don't know if ADs are for you or not. Just wanted to reassure you that they can work and you won't neccesarily be on them for ages.

SW, sorry to leave you hanging. For me, Zoloft stopped the suicidal thoughts and evened out my mood. Without it I felt like I was on an emotional rollercoaster. I wound up only needing 25 mg/day. A tiny dosage actually, but it really made a difference.

HTH and good luck

jabberwocky · 23/01/2007 13:07

Oh, and I had wine occasionally with no problems. Perhaps the small dosage made that possible, I don't really know.

sunnywong · 24/01/2007 07:45

right, well
I went to see the GP and it she was lovely, it was just like seeing her for a chat and a glass of wine ( she is a friend anyway and we have the same age kids so she knows where I'm coming from) only this time she was able to prescribe me drugs!

She put me on 20mcg of Lovan which is Fluoxetine and is part of the Selective Serotonin reuptake Inhibitors and also used to tread premeenstural dysphoric disorder.\

I go and see her in a week and take it from there

Thanks for all the advice, I really really appreciate it.

So glad it went well! I noticed an improvement quite quickly with mine. Hope you're feeling better soon.

moondog · 24/01/2007 10:00

Oh dear SW.
Didn't realise it was getting as bad as this. I am sorry.
What is the situation on granny flat/residential home/weighting said lady with two blocks of cement and throwing her off a bridge?

It's not good for anyone, this living together lark.

KezzaG · 24/01/2007 10:02

sunnywong I have used Fluoxetine and the effects were immediate. I agree with everything MrsJohnCusack has said, they just help you think more clearly and not feel so upset and overwhelmed for everything.

I only used them for 3 months and am now 10 days off them. feel happy and positive and a different person to 4 months ago. hope you have the same experience.

Carmenere · 24/01/2007 10:05

Hi SW, glad you have got a perscription, I took fluroxetine before and it did really help when I was seriously depressed. It just reminded me how to be happy again and then being happy became normal and then I just phased them out. And I did drink wine Not a huge amount but a glass of red every so often. I'm not advocating it but it diddn't stop the pills working for me. So good luck and another manly slap on the shoulder from me

MrsJohnCusack · 24/01/2007 10:06

sunny, glad it went well, sounds like you have a great GP

hope it all works out for you
