Where to go to get stitches out in Ireland?

Stupidly slipped over in the shower yesterday and cut the underside of my chin. I now have 5 stitches. I was advised at the hospital to get them removed next week, but I'm going to Ireland on holiday on Saturday, so will need to get it done there. Asked if I could wait until I got back and the dr said no, as risk of infection and/or scarring. I'll be in Cork in a weeks time and just wondering how to get this done and what the options are. I'm not sure if there are walk in clinics etc, and whether my EHIC will be enough to cover the cost. Any advice gratefully received

Living in Dublin here, you can certainly go to a new GP and ask them to treat you as a one off. I've done it a few times. Ring a few places in Cork and see what they say.

Wow, thanks for all the replies. Think my best bet might be to contact one of the walkin clinics - either the VHI one, or the other one Onyx suggested - in the Mills in Douglas. The website lists removal of stitches for 15 Euros, so that sounds ok, even if there's a consultation as well. MN is brilliant, thanks all!

You could take them out yourself just a little snip at the knot and gently pull them

I don't know why people are telling you to go to a random GP, because, just the same as in the UK, you need to be registered with a GP before you can avail of their services.

wrong

Well you're wrong also user eile. Try rocking up to a GP in Kildare without being registered. The receptionist would sweep you out the door.

Are you telling me that despite not being registered, I could walk (or phone) any GP in the UK, especially in a large city, and get an appointment any time in the next week, at my convenience?

Despite the fact that there are endless complaints on here about how people can't even get through on the phone to their own GP's and have to wait weeks for an appointment? As a foreign walk in, I'd walk right in?

Sure.

I have taken stitches out of myself before. Really very simple.

People have said you COULD and CAN not that you WILL. She might have to try a couple of different places or wait it out in a walk in centre, but it is possible and allowed!
