Long shot - but any idea what's wrong with ds?

ds1- 17months.
3 or so weeks ago we took him to a&e as he had a temperature of 39.5 that i couldnt control. they suspected meningitis till they checked his ears then said he had a raging ear infection in both ears, the right ear drum was bulging with infection and we should be prepared for it to burst etc.
prescribed anti-b's, 6.5mls at a time. finished those.
2 days after he'd finished them i noticed ds going downhill again- miserable, not eating, pulling ear, biting me (he bites when tired etc).
took him to my gp and also doc at a&e had requested a doc checked him out to check ears were ok. she said they look a bit 'funny' but it can take 10 weeks for ears to return to normal. i was not happy and felt a bit fobbed off as i knew there was something wrong with him but they do tend to treat me like an idiot as i am only 23- usually get my mum to take them for me.
couple days after this ds is getting worse, my mum said enoughis enough, he is not well and she took him back to doc.
his ear drum had perforated under the pressure from the infection but not to worry as it does not normally affect hearing- great, i wont worry then.
more anti-b's, all finished and hes no better.
he is running a temp of over 38 again and has been asleep all day so far, sweating till his sheets are wet. he kept waking up last night, all i could do was give him painkillers and cuddle him, but he couldnt decide what he wanted as he seems uncomfortable when handled or moved around.

i was wondering if anyone has any ideas as i am reluctant to take him out in the storm to be told he is fine again. (i dont drive and also have 3month old)
can children get recurrent ear infections?
please, any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hi LofF - How is DS this morning? x
The only thing I would say is that the very minute he gets any worse take him straight back to a&e and insist on further investigation. I know this is difficult because you have a 3month old too, hope your mum is able to help you. x

thanks all.
he seems to have perked up already with the different anti-bs. he is still far from better tho. he still has no patience/grumpy/irritable. he ate a few spoons of weetabix this morning and about 10 grapes so i am pleased with that.
he will have to miss his prevenar jab again as it is scheduled for tomorrow.
so far today he has been awake for about 2 hours while we went to the shops and took ds2 for his jab.
im just so angry the doc turned me away when i bloody well knew he was ill. i should have taken him back to a&e then.
lesson learned.

Hi - dunno if you remember but in March (ish) DS1 had pneumonia. He went blue and we rushed him into a&e where he was admitted straight away given a chest x-ray and put on IV antibiotics which work MUCH quicker than oral ones.

Really hope your DS1 improves but honestly, if he's not getting better pretty quickly please go back and ask for a re-evaluation, ask if he could have an IV (they hate it but it works) and request a chest xray if they think it's pneumonia. I have same problem as you in terms of being 'young' (as though that somehow makes us more paranoid and stupid ) but thankfully a little medical knowledge so I knew what to ask for.

Hope you are doing ok btw - takes it out of you having sick LO's

hi liquidclocks! long time no speak!
they mentioned iv anti-bs then changed their mind as they cant decide where in his body the infection is. in his chest- pneumonia or in his bladder etc. i was a bit suprised they couldnt tell me where.
they say the anti-bs they have given him now are good for chests if that is the problem and they could cause violent sickness and diahorrea (sp?). if this is the case they will change him back to the first ones, which he had two courses of and they didnt work, and see what happens.
we will finish the course he is on now and i pray it works as they dont seem to know what to do and he is very sick. he cant afford to lose much more weight tbh. he was skinny to start with.
i dont hold out much hope but i am trying to keep my chin up.
