Yes... Had to be knocked out though

SparklyGothKat · 22/01/2007 12:36

was supposed to have mine on the 8th january but had an ectopic pregnancy so had to cancel my smear, they said that I could rebook when I felt my body had recovered.

bakedbeans · 22/01/2007 12:43

Sorry sparkly I didn't know Quootie they gave you a general anesetic for a smear?

Quootiepie · 22/01/2007 12:44

Well, they had to hold of until I had a laparoscopy for other things... so wasn't knocked out specifically for the smear 2 different doctors tried

Fireflyfairy2 · 22/01/2007 12:44

I am due one I keep putting it off. I was due one when ds was born. He is 2 now.

To be fair, the last time I did go she couldn't smear me as I had light bleeding so I didn't make an appointment to go back. Will do it soon.

Quootiepie · 22/01/2007 12:44

Sparkly {{hugs}} xXx

wurlywurly · 22/01/2007 12:44

i had mine couple of years ago, we had a new nurse at docs surgery and was very worried about having it done as the 1st one i ever had was really painfull and i bled after, the second time nothing, didnt eve realise she was finished til she told me.

bakedbeans · 22/01/2007 12:46

oh I understand what you mean now, I went to fpc because I didn't want to have at the doctors' surgery with the nurses there, so I wanted to be anonumous

Twiglett · 22/01/2007 12:47

thanks for reminder ..am on phone now ..been a year since last all-clear

DimpledThighs · 22/01/2007 12:49

I hate them so my rule is when it is due don't think about it just book it and then have a glass of wine with your lunch for being such a good girl.

TBH it is never as bad as you think it is going to be. I had mine 6months ago and as I was having I was thinking I must remember this is not that bad!

Stop thinking and posting about it, get your docs number and go go go girly!

Quootiepie · 22/01/2007 12:50

ah, how often are you supposed to have them?

MascaraOHara · 22/01/2007 12:51

I don't get why people don't like them.

I've had loads (blatant boast). Used to have them annually from 21 to 27 but was told last year I can go to every 5 years now. I'm a bit gutted, anything could happen in 5years.

SparklyGothKat · 22/01/2007 12:57

isn;t it every 3 or 5 years? I haven;t had one for 8 years but I was booked in at the FPC for one, but because I was bleeding, I guessed that they wouldn;t do it anyway. Will book in as soon as AF has been and I know that everything is back to normal

Quootiepie · 22/01/2007 12:58

ah, I had one 2 years ago.

Nip · 22/01/2007 12:59

MascaraOHara - i cant say i dont like them as i've never had one, however its just the thought of it. I once had a urinary infection as a child and with the dr 'taking a look' i felt so sick, and cried the whole time.
I feel embarrased, stupid, pathetic, childish, 'different' and awful about the whole subject.

Yes i have been through labour and had 9 months to panic and worry about every part of it. And i did, i hated the constant monitoring and 'looking'.. perhaps people think this is pathetic but i'm feeling wound up just thinking about it.
(sorry to hijack your thread bakedbeans)
i AM going to get it done, i really know i must but i'm going to go to a clinic rather than my dr's, so i have to plan a whole bloody day around it...

MascaraOHara · 22/01/2007 13:03

it takes literally 2 minutes for a nurse to do. Really nothing to be frightened about. I always had abnormal smears which is why I had them every year.

I'd rather go through that 2 minutes than find out in 5 years I have gone from abnormal to cancerous.

Personally I find them quite funny and I find trying to stop giggling more embarrassing than anything.

alittlebitshy · 22/01/2007 13:04

Nip - i'm the same. never had one done. scared. WHen i was pg with dd i hated the odd internal, and once was so er stressed that the dr kind of got his hand stuck when trying to check something. Saw nurse last week for a general check up and i promised i'd book one next time i get my period, for 10 days after it starts. SHe's quite nice (not like the other misery guts nurse) so I think i will..... I know I should have done it so many years ago!!

LIZS · 22/01/2007 13:05

Had it in September, after prompting on MN

littlemissbossy · 22/01/2007 13:08

I'm always up-to-date with mine.
No it's not exactly pleasant is it but PLEASE GO and have a smear test especially those who have never had one
I know someone who died aged 30 and left two young children behind - all as a result of never having a smear test

Nip · 22/01/2007 13:10

When is the 'right' time of the month to book them? I need to think in advance about this?

alittlebitshy · 22/01/2007 13:11

the nurse told me to call up the day i "start" and book for around 10 days (or so) later. she said cervix needs to be dead centre to mkae it accessible (lol)

MascaraOHara · 22/01/2007 13:11

book in the middle of your cycle. I think they say avoid week before and week after your period. if there's blood they can't get accurate results.

MascaraOHara · 22/01/2007 13:12

(as well as the week of your period) just to clarify

Earlybird · 22/01/2007 13:13

Yes. Had one a month ago, and have always had them annually. Not nearly so disciplined with mammograms, but have now booked one for April.
