what to do about dh's blood clot?

Dh had a vasectomy four weeks ago. He was fine after a few days and went back to work.

Two days later he was in loads of pain and has a swelling in his testicle.
Has seen various GPs now and they agree it's a blood clot caused when the surgeon cut a blood vessel doing the op (surgeon admits this and said he popped a stitch in it)

Everyone keeps telling him to lie down and rest and it will go away.
But a month on its bigger than ever (small orange size now large orange)
He can barely walk, he is on max painkillers dosage but still really really sore.

He is never one to stay off work but has been off for a month now as his job is really physical. Plus he couldn't walk/drive to get there.

He feels like he is being fobbed off. Both the surgeon who did the op and the surgical person he saw at the hospital a week ago have said it will go away.

But it isn't. It's worse and more painful than ever. He keeps getting feverish at night, sweats, then cold too but this is maybe due to all the painkillers.

What do we do?!

How is your dh now? I hope he's on the mend and back home soon.

Hello sorry for the delay its been a busy couple of days

Dh is on the mend, his temperature stayed down all day today. He is on strong painkillers so a bit drowsy

The doc (who really didn't like being asked questions by me) said they got most of it out. The drain is now out and altho its really swollen and sore he feels a heck of a lot better.

Hopefully home in the next day or two. I've been up there most of the afternoon and evenings as he has a private room they don't seem to mind.

Just be good to have him home

You've both had a rotten time, I hope he's all better for your holiday

Donthate · 29/06/2016 22:44

That sounds so painful. Glad he's on the mend.

Not home today but maybe tomorrow.
He was drowsy today but I got him up and showered and then we had tea together. So that was nice.
He had sandwiches as he didn't fancy hospital food. So at least he ate.

He's home. We've cancelled our holiday and will rebook in a couple of months. No way can he fly and walk about.
Trying to word his complaint now after being left in agony for a month before someone finally realised he wasn't making it up....

You have my sympathy, I had a broken arm that was missed for two weeks, no one would believe me

People can behave very badly in these situations, putting their own need to be seen to be right above the health of a patient.

The all conquering hero that never gets anything wrong. Except of course when reality just won't fall into line, and that pesky patient isn't trying hard enough to be well!

glad he's home Purple..
if the signs of infection were there prior to last week then definitely someone has missed the crucial signs

Purplehonesty · 01/07/2016 21:29

He is so cross about the whole thing, it was avoidable, unnecessary for him to have been left like this.

I'm just delighted to have him home and have a quiet evening together while the kids sleep at my mums.

They said probably another month off work for him and then ease back in. Poor bloke

Not surprised he's pissed off when he had all the signs of needing further investigation and was left to deteriorate
