Dd's lips turned blue ish today very briefly, under 10 minutes and she was fine, should I be worried or not?

She'd just eaten a Mango Smoothie lolly (not a type I've ever bought before, I don't buy lollies normally) and her lips suddenly looked a bit purply blue. She said she felt fine and it was gone within 10 minutes. It happened again half an hour later, any ideas what it was?

She's very very pale, blonde haired and blue eyed so any mark or blotch shows immediately and looks worse than it is but any ideas or reassurance much appreciated. She's 3 and 2 months.

dd3 lips also go blue. its very worrying. apparently its only soemthing t worry about with symptoms but i cant remember what

Twiglett · 21/01/2007 21:49

probably nothing

can be a sign of being cold or lack of oxygen (not serious)

Bucketsofdynomite · 21/01/2007 21:50

My friend's little boy (just 4) often gets blue lips from the cold, they've given up visits to the seaside for a while because although they don't worry, it's a pain having to warm him up again. Just get her to blow some raspberries and run about a bit if it happens again.

because it went away and she seemed fine I wouldn't worry about it .. but I'd probably keep an eye on her

We had just come in and her hands were cold. She was absolutely fine, nothing else wrong with her at all, happy as anything. OK, so I shouldn't worry then? Phew, thanks.

its just the blood works to keep the important organs warm so moves away from extremities .. lack of oxygen in lips makes them look blueish

LadyTophamHatt · 21/01/2007 21:56

Ds3's used to do that alot. Alway scared the life out of me.

He was being seen at the hosp as a baby for a poss heart murmur(nothing found, all ok. he had a heart scan thingy) so I really was concerned.

Doc said it if hes' cold it will show very easily with blue lips.
It happened again afew weeks ago when he insisted on a ice cream when we were at the beach. It was bitterly cold day and he had huge tantrum about having an ice cream....so he had one. I don't think he'll want one again on such a cold day, his whole face had atinge of blue!!

He's blonde and very pale too.

Was it just that it was a very cold lolly maybe?

My friend's 3yr old daughter has very pale colouring and at this time of the year is always blue lipped.

wickedwaterwitchhaspmt · 21/01/2007 22:18

Maybe it was the cold lolly that did it, she had JUST finished it when I noticed. Thanks everyone, I feel a lot happier now.
