Hi There, as a new member I am sure there are plenty of you who have seen this thread before but I am due to have my coil removed tommorrow and I am a little bit scared. I was in a lot of pain when I had it put in and was wondering if any of you had the same thing? also, what sort of side affects you had. I must say though, I am really looking forward to getting it taken out. Any advice?

never had it done myself, take some painkillers before you go.

JSo · 21/01/2007 19:52

I found getting it out much much easier than it being put in..no probs at all, and I am a scardey cat..tht

evissa · 21/01/2007 19:52

Hi, Yes the doc did say to do that but I was just wondering if it would hurt as much as it did when I had it put in?

It will be really simple in comparison to having it put in, should only take a few seconds, and shouldn't be painful at all, in fact less messing than a smear test.
You can always take analgesia before you go to make sure, but probably won't need it

I was in real pain when I had mine put in but when I had it out it was slightly painful but my threads had disappeared so that didn't help!
Like the others say take paracetamol before you go

Chattyhan · 21/01/2007 19:55

Not sure if i had the same one - mine was one without hormones!

But i had no pain having it put in but it was 8 weeks after giving birth.

When it was removed i did feel a little discomfort and a scratch type feeling but it was over very quickly.

Did have dull cramp like feeling for a couple of hours afterwards.

My GP told me to take ibroprofen before going.

Hope this helps xx

evissa · 21/01/2007 19:55

I hope it's the same for me Jso, and I hope the pain's and weight gain go away as well!!!

evissa · 21/01/2007 19:59

Hi Chattyhan, mine was with hormones and boy, do I know it! it took 3 months for the bleeding to stop, then I was just getting really bad pain there. I know it suits some people but it's not for me.

I took my own out. Never felt a thing!

All my pains went within 2 weeks and I lost 10lb in the first 10 days after it came out!!

auntyspan · 22/01/2007 14:07

That's funny - I'm having mine taken out on Thursday morning due to acne / weight gain and loss of libido (sorta defeats the object of having one doesn;t it?!?!

However struggling with another form of contraception..... DH is allergic to latex and I can't take the CP due to migranes....

Might just get pregnant again......

evissa · 22/01/2007 21:37

Hi Girls, Thank you for your advise! you have all been so helpful! Had the coil removed today and guess what - did not feel a thing (smile) I have cramp feelings now though but I feel soooo much better knowing its not there anymore. My DH hates condom's so looks like there might be another one on the way (grin)

Hi All
I'n new tonight & would like to ask a few things. I have had a mirena coil in now for 3 years and before this one I had one in for 6 years. I had it fitted about 4 months after my son was born. I have had no problems with mine I have found it great & no side affects at all, thought it was great not to have had a period for nearly 10 years. We are now thinking of trying for another baby, mad I know after 10 years. I would like to know how long it has to be out before you can start trying again. My doctor has told me I don't need to wait anytime, but I just think my body will need to get back to normal before trying.

Madoldcatlady · 24/01/2007 20:15

My periods got straight back into a normal pattern a coulpe of weeks after I took the coil out.

Do what you feel most comfortable with. If you feel happier waiting a few months then do so. Otherwise go for it!!

Good luck.xx

Hello All

Well I went to the doctors this morning in the vein hope she may be able to offer some advise on removing the coil & on how long to wait until you can start to try & I have come back none the wiser.

I have booked in to get the coil removed on 9th Feb & I shall just go on from then. I will keep you updated.

If any of you outhere have any advise I would be happy to accept it.

evissa · 25/01/2007 13:11

Hi Curryqueen, when I had mine removed and told doc that I would be trying, she did not give me any indication on time at all, so I just presumed that as soon as you have had it removed that you could just get pregnant. Maybe I am wrong? but it would be good to get some advice by mums who have been through this sort of thing. Wish the coil worked for me, maybe nature was trying to tell me I am ready for another! smile
