Both my boys have chicken pox and ds2 won't let me 'get him' with calamineand is itching like crazy (he's 20 months). Have heard somewhere (probably here!) abouth bathing wth oats. Does anyone know what it means? surely i don't put porridge in the bath with them!!

Cut the bottom off one leg of a pair of tights, put the oats into the tights, tie a know in it - then just put it in the water when you start running the bath, and keep giving it a little swish.

I think you make little bags of them, with nettey type fabric. God, how specific am I? Tie them up so they don't all come out and place under the tap so the water flows over them.

take it out when they get in? or leave it?

Leave it in if you want to, it won't hurt. Dd liked squidging it in her hands.

that sounds simple enough, thanks

Best thing for chicken pox itchiness is bicarb of soda in the bath... a big tablespoon. Dries the spots up really quickly and stops the scarring.

MerlinsBeard · 21/01/2007 16:21

i haven't got any bicarb

bakingpowder i have loads of but i imagine thats not the same!!

I'm not sure TBH. I used to buy the tubs of tesco own brand stuff from the baking aisle... near the flour.
