DS1 has finaly succumbed to the spots which were inevitable. Do i need to take him to GP on Mon? Hes doing ok at mo with calamine and have piriton on standby so don't actualy need to see a DR but do they need to know?

i was told to just write it in red book for future referane

You could call and check, some areas like to know so they can keep an eye for an epidemic and put it on their personal record, some don't bother, I would call to see.

i suspect they already know theres an epidemic, my ds seems to be the last tp have had it!! will call and check anyway.

Thank you

No - it's not a notifiable illness like measles is.

If it's difficult to get an appointment, then you could just ring to let GP know. It's good to have these things on their records in case it comes up in the future.

i don't want to take him as there are always a fair few pregnant women there and tiny babies so trying to avoid that. Sounds like i will have to ring on Monday and see what they say

I didn't go to GPs. There was no doubt that it was chicken pox, their temperatures & itching were manageable and (like fairdust) I noted it in their red books and mentioned it next time we were at the Dr's so it could be added to their notes.

Making a date & note of it is important - 3 months after DD1 had chicken pox she was admitted to A&E with suspected septic arthritis and the medical team needed all the info - and fortunately I had my red book with me.

Both my dds have the chicken pox at the moment - my pharmacy told me only to go to the doctors if I was really worried about them, which I'm not, at least not so far. I will be writing it in their books to keep a record of the date.

It sounds likeone of those things where its different depending on your area! Will write it in red book and ring Dr on Monday just to check.

Thank you all
