Cut thumb what if anything should I put on it or get some air on it, picture included

So I stupidly cut my thumb on a tin while squashing it. It was pretty bad but not so bad it needs stitched. It happened on Saturday afternoon my fil told me to put sudocrem on.

It's still bleeding abit is sudocrem ok to put on it? It feels weird for lack of a better word when it's on. And if I'm having to keep it covered will it fuse? At the minute I think it's cause I keep knocking it that it's bleeding.

So keep sudocrem? Get some air to it? Need to change plaster again as bloods coming through again. Ds just whacked it!

You can buy steristrips at the chemist, so i would do that and pop a couple on it, just to keep it closed. put a plaster over the top. It is just the positioning that makes it keep bleeding.

I did this last year! It didn't heal until it dawned on me that I'd need steri-strips. They were the answer.

Forget the sudocreme, it just gunks it up. I third the steristrips route and if they are hard to keep on ask if they have Hypafix to go over the top for a day or so. Magic stuff.

Thank you I got the steri strips and think it had gone beyond that. It's quite jelly like and won't close properly, should've had at the start. Is it better to close the little bit it will or leave it? I'm assuming it's healing although it's not looking good. But if sudocrem gunks it upbeat could be why.

If you haven't already give it a good wash under warm running water. Then add a tiny bit of mild antiseptic cream, push the edges together and use the steri strips. If it looks yellow, throbs and won't heal, see your GP as you might need a couple of stitches. Are you up to date with tetanus jabs too?

I've tried washing it and it looks a bit yellowish today. I was under the impression stitches were 6-8 hours after. The shallower end healed but it's the deeper bit that is looking gunky. Will probably check with pharmacist and then doctors if necessary. Dp was stupidly unhelpful,it's a scratch it's fine. Steri strips would've worked when I did it I think but it was Saturday afternoon. It's also totally numb around it now but very painful on the cut. So hard to get into doctors and I have no idea about my tetanus I had one probably 12 years ago thinking about it, which doesn't sound great. Might just call surgery and ask. Thanks
