i don't have any advice, but i do really feel for you - it must be such hard work and really draining and upsetting.

have you considered seeing a homeopath? i had thrush in the nipple and breast when i was breastfeeding and daktacort did nothing for me at all. they also gave me some hydrocortisone cream which also did nothing. i ended up in agony with thrush and gave up breastfeeding.

if it helps here's a link to homeopathy site homeopathy which may be of some use

good luck, i hope the thrush goes away soon.

would the doc prescribe oral antibiotics? dd st getting over nappy thrush.pharmacist said doc might give antibiotics if it doesn't clear up as could be a virus?

Do you need the barrier cream? Could this be making it worse creating a warm environment between it and the skin?

Have you tried adding a drop of vinegar to his bath water or wiping with dilute vinegar. Thrush can't live in acidic conditions. Same with the nappies. Soak in a vinegar solution.

Were they just normal disposables that he reacted to? If so, you could try these. I'm a big clothie fan but I know disps can help with thrush and you sound like you need a break. You must be so furious with the hospital too, do you take in your own bleachy bath cleaner each time? Do you use washable wipes? Soak them in water, a drop of infant oilatum and a drop of teatree oil.
Some interesting stuff on here inc eating a raw garlic clove a day!

Don't beat yourself up, it certainly wouldn't have occurred to me not to trust a hospital baby bath! You're doing everything you can in a tricky situation (but it won't last forever.)
How long is he going to be in plaster for, is it for talipes? Must be really hard not bring able to pop in him a salty bath at home. My friend's baby has talipes and they keep one of her last casts on the mantel as a reminder! Looks very funny.

Hi MummyPossum - my DS2 was born with talipes. His legs got in a right old state with the plaster casts, so I do sympathise.

Where is he being treated? If he's had his tenotomy, then the end is in sight really.

Dinosaur · 22/01/2007 14:48

Why does he have to have the casts soaked off in hospital? We had to soak DS2's off at home in our own bath. Probably a lot cleaner.

Bucketsofdynomite · 22/01/2007 16:04

Hi Dinosaur, I've changed my name this new year because people kept calling us both Dino .
Mummypossum, I'd just use a decent Dettol/Domestos kitchen spray, wipe it about and rinse.

My youngest had a terrible case, and the paed told me to paint the whole area at least twice a day with a disinfectant called mercurochrome (makes the skin go bright red). I used this as well as the dakhoweveryouspellit cream and it got rid of the rash quite quickly. The spots came back when I stopped, so I carried on using it once a day for about 10 days. I just stopped yesterday and am waiting to see whether it's gone for good. I don't live in UK, but guess the same product should be available there.

Poor little scrap. Casts are bloody awful, aren't they.

We didn't use scissors, we used pliers! My dad used to help me. Took quite a while, luckily DS2 loved being in the bath and never minded me hacking away at his casts!

Dinosaur · 22/01/2007 21:25

Buckets - thanks - yes I got people asking why I'd changed my name to bucketsofdinosaurs!

Dinosaur · 25/01/2007 12:19
