19 months! Has anyone else gone this long before starting again or should I start getting worried. I b/fed up to 14mths so that could explain the delay a bit, but they still haven't come back 5 mths after stopping.

pill I'm on is great! Haven't had one for almost 3 years!! Not missing them, but must find out if it's healthy

chocolateshoes · 19/01/2007 21:31

What's it called - is it the same as mine? - Femulen or something similar

Hi, I didn't have a period for over 3 yrs - I was pg with dd, then bfed her until she was 1, then pg with ds, then bfed him until he was nearly 1. It was lovely! The only thing was that when I re-stared it was like being 13 all over again (actually I started at 10), all quite painful and unpredictable, and my peroids are only settling down now (a year and a half later.

If you still havent re-started a yr after finishing brfding it might be worth checking it out but in the meantime I'd enjoy the break!

chocolateshoes · 20/01/2007 13:25

am just finding it a bit stressful worrying that I might be pg again - can't afford another1 & don't have room in our house! had planned to stop at 1!!

chocolateshoes was going to suggest that you ruled that out, one of my collegues didn't have her periods return after the birth of her first thought it was just settling down, then one day she felt an odd sensation, it was the baby kicking she was 16 weeks gone! Now she has two babies a year apart! In a nutshell, it's not impossible, do a test to rule it out!
good luck!

chocolateshoes. Have you put on weight since conceiving DS? Coud it be polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS)? V common and a weight gain is enough to stop some women's periods if they have PCOS.

starj · 20/01/2007 15:43

Yes it's Femulen,so it must be a (good) side-effect. Doubt it's a 3 year pregnancy

chocolateshoes · 22/01/2007 20:08

I've done 2 tests over the last few months 2donut & both have been negative, but its still freaking me out tbh & think you're right that I should do another this week.

Crimpleen - yes I have put on about 4 kilos but have put that down to my yucky C/sections flab & lack of muscle tone. How do I find out about PCOS? _ an app with my GP I suppose.

Starj - have just realised I was on Femulen when b/feeding but now am on Microgynon. Grr, was hoping that that was the explanation ...suppose it may still be.

Hulababy · 22/01/2007 20:17

I didn't have periods after the birth of my DD - none at all whilst talking the pill - Microgynon. I then only had very light periods when not taking it. With all I had a lot of pain when my period is due. I went to to the GPs this summer about it, as the pain was/is very bad. Turned out I needed various gynae checks and tests - due to have a hysterosocpy in next 4-5 months with possible Asherman's Syndrome.

Hulababy · 22/01/2007 20:18

I have spent a small fortune on pregnancy tests over the past 4.5 years!

chocolateshoes · 22/01/2007 20:20

My goodness Hula that sounds grim. Good luck with checks. Have never heard of Asherman's syndrome - am going to Google it now...

OP posts:
Hulababy · 22/01/2007 20:26

Asherman's isn't very common - although there are 2 or 3 of us on here at least. The pain is very symptomatic.

Another thing they considered/are considering is cervical stenosis, or anarrowing of the cervix.

Your case is most likely nothing at all, and the pill can lighten periods to an extent where they stop. But I would still have it checked out just in case.

chocolateshoes · 22/01/2007 20:35

I don't get any pains so I don't think I do have A Syndrome, but my sister has suffered for the last few years. Have googled for info and forwarded it to her.

chocolateshoes. The other symptoms of PCOS are not always present - I found I had it when I went to have a lack of periods investigated when I was 19. There's probably quite a lot on Mumsnet, but there's a support group called Verity. Will try to link to the site, but I still can't do links so please forgive if it doesn't work: \link{http://www.verity-pcos.org.uk/ diagnosis just involves an ultrasound and there are a few treatments now so it's actually worth getting a diagnosis (wasn't 13 years ago)

chocolateshoes · 23/01/2007 19:11

Thanks Crimp - will investigate further
