tiniest bit of exercise. Its no joke, it doesnt take much, sometimes i dont even work hard enough to work up a sweat in the gym, but i look like ive been there for hours. My head just gets all the heat, everything else is still cool.
Does any one else suffer and what do you do?
My dd1 has inhertited this from me and as soon as she does a little light exercise she is red and she is very emabrised, i dont want to see her suffer and i wan ther to enjoy being fit. She is fit at 10 yrs old and can ealiy do a 10 mile bike ride with me anyday. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Please dont laugh....i have put this in health incase a fitness guru can advise of my pathetic state and tell me im not alone in my redness. It feels like.

fannyannie · 19/01/2007 18:06

I don't know - I don't usually sit and look at myself in the mirror when I'm on the toilet

Tutter · 19/01/2007 18:07

i thought 'guff'

wotzsaname · 19/01/2007 18:20

unless you have anything useful to add THIS IS NOT IN CHAT feck off. If i said it was a problem then it is. I wanted some advice not to be laughed at. Had enough of that already.

I have the same problem. It's not just exercise, it's all sorts of things that set it off. For instance, I've just got back from DD's swimming lesson and half an hour in what felt like a sauna made me look like a beetroot (no-one else's mum did!).

interstellar · 19/01/2007 18:31

Hi, you are not alone! I am exactly the same and so is my son,he is a v fit little boy and one day last year was made to sit out of athletics as herwa so red-despite his body not even sweating and not being the slightest bit puffed!I am often asked if iam ok,i dont know what to say to you,you and yr daughter just have to live with it--but rest asssured you are not alone.

interstellar · 19/01/2007 18:32

oh i go like that too pianist

pianist · 19/01/2007 18:32

Can't offer any advice to stop the reddening, but the best make-up I've found for covering up blotchiness is SheerCover which you can only buy by mail order.

myturn · 19/01/2007 18:37

I have this problem - the slightest exertion and I look like my head is going to explode! People look at me very worriedly while I am in the gym lol.

Don't think there is much you can do about it. I've read that when you exercise your blood is pumped around a lot more and this causes the vessels to open up more. They are pushed closer to the surface of your skin. This is what makes you red (I think, if this is all true). And unfortunately pale skin is more tranluscent than darker skin so the redness shows up more. I have really pale skin, so I suppose this is why I look like I have boiled my head in oil during exercising.

So no tips on how to stop it as I would be doing it if I knew how... sorry.

TheArmadillo · 19/01/2007 18:40

"look like I have boiled my head in oil"

Yep same here - ds seems to be inheriting it too. Don't think there's anything you can do about it though.

myturn · 19/01/2007 18:43

Two of my girls are very fair skinned and have the same problem. The other two are dark skinned and look very cool, calm and collected whilst exercising. It's just unfair...

My mum and 3 sisters are all lava heads... I would say it's definitely hereditary. Grrr.

wotzsaname · 19/01/2007 18:43

thank you interstella and pianist.
interstella sorry to hear about you son. My DD dreads sports day because everyone stares at her. She doesnt break a sweat either.
Its not just blotchy its the whole face though thought it might be genetic. other dd is fine, not as bad.

Who was laughing??? Those with funny answers seemed to be laughing at their own mistake.. and you did choose to post a very leading title.

wotzsaname · 19/01/2007 18:49

we are not that fair and both have very dark hair which is very thick, very thick, cant get a ponytail in DD1 hair properly as its so thick.
I have lived with it and kind of just get on with it, but i get upset of DD as she is at that age when they get all hormonal and worried about stuff. Also she blames me.
Thank you for everyone that has helped me not feel so alone. I look around am I the only one like this in RL.

er... why??!

noonar · 19/01/2007 18:53

sorry if we've annoyed you, but it was just meant as light hearted banter. like shinyhappypeople said, i thought you were being deliberately cheeky/'provocative' with your thread title.

wotzsaname · 19/01/2007 18:54

mixed message. im not a serious person, but this issue is to me. No offence taken, hope none given, just wanted some advice before thread droped, so in your own way you have both helped.

goingfor3 · 19/01/2007 19:17

There is a condition called Rosacea. Have a look on NHS direct to see of it sounds similar to what you have. I'm pretty sure my FIL has it as he always looks really red.

JoshandJamie · 19/01/2007 19:40

I get it too. The tiniest bit of exercise regardless of how fit I am and I look like my face is going to explode. My mom has the same thing. We also both sweat a lot from our head at night. Maybe we're just hotheads??

I wish I knew the answer. I do know that it gets even worse if I bend down - so for example if I'm playing squash and bend down to pick up the ball, bam, red head right away.
