Have been advised against future pg for health - what contraception?

Hi,
I am 18 weeks pg with no.3 and have been advised by my consultant that another cs (after this one) could be dangerous. She said "unnecessary risk". I am quite happy with the family i have/will have and am very keen not to have to decide to abort in the future on my health grounds. my ds and i are uber-fertile, so leaving it for a while after the baby is born is not an option.
I go quite mental on the pill (or in fact any hormone treatment), so need another option. I have discussed having my tubes cut/clipped during the cs with my consultant but am not sure. dh is not keen on vasectamy, and anyway, it is my health risk not his, so i would like to take responsibility (if you see what i mean). if our situation changes and we split up in the future, there is no reason why he can't have more kids, but i can't.
Opinions please - especially if you have had tubes clipped during cs. I have read a thread from the archive, but it seemed to be for family planning and not health risk reasons.
thanks (and sorry for life story!!) in advance.

If you have been advised not to have anymore children why don't you want have yourself sterilsed during the c-section?

My friend had this done - said she didn't notice any difference to when she had her first ds by c-section. Kind of 'whilst your down there' as you have the epidural in and they are in the area anyway.

Can you explain a bit more about why you are not keen on having your tubes cut?

thanks for your response dt.
it is not that i definitely DON'T want it done, it is just that I want to make sure that it is the right decision before i do it.
i read on another thread that the failure rates (ie you could still conceive) are higher if you have it done during a cs as the tubes are swollen during pg. I was wondering if anyone had advice that said:
a) do it - i did it and am fine
b) don't do it during the cs, wait a few months and then have it done
c) don't do it at all, have the coil fitted and cope with the moodiness and homicidal tendencies.

hmm seem to be talking myself into it anyway!!

you are doing exactly the right thing by going over the issue in lots of ways and exploring all avenues until you are sure in your mind that it is the right one. It is a really big thing to choose to do and it is really good that you are quite happy with your family. You can voice your concerns to your consultant regarding the possiblity of failure (conception) and that in relation to it being done during a c-section. I imagine they would be keen to avoid the health risks (and expense!) of you coming in for a second operation -esp. as you will have a little baby at home.

Well don't feel like I can be much help, but I too hate hormone contraception and so I have a copper coil. If this is the route you wish to choose do let me know.

The only downside of the coil for me is that my periods are slightly heavier, but its really not that bad for me. We too are uber fertile so contraception is key!

Best wishes!

hmm. not sure, my mum got pregnant after she had me with a coil in. she got an infection and had to have a termination.
i am sure they have come on since then, but that knowledge makes me nervous!!
i was advised that if i did have a coil, it would be more effective if it was a hormone release one. is that true?

there are loads of threads about the hormone coil 'minerva' or something. From what I know it is more effective and does not have the downside of heavier periods etc. but I choose the standard IUD - mainly because I didn't want to spend extra on organic milk to avoid the hormones only to go and place then slow release down there! But that's my opinion, lots of people rate the hormone one and given your mother's story it may sit better with you (no pun intended.)
