Took ds2 to a&e and they said he has got broncolitus. He is having trouble feeding, finding it really difficult, is exculsively bf.

Is really horrible when I put him to feed he screams. Just wondered if anyone else has had experience with this.

Yes my ds had bronchiolitis when he was about 18 months old. Obviously by then he was weaned onto proper meals and fairly big physically (compared to a small baby) but it hit him pretty hard and for a few days he was very drowsy and ill. He just sat on the sofa or wanted to be held all the time and if he tried to stand up he fell over! (poor love!) The doc said that if he'd been younger it would have been potentially much more serious.

For a good few months after that his immune system was pretty low anf he caught lots of little colds. We gave him Minadex vitamins (still do). In small babies it can be very nasty so do keep a close eye on your ds esp. if he is little. Hope he gets better very soon!

Hi Mower, must be awful for you and your poor DS2.

Sorry don't have any experience of this in an infant but had this myself in my teens. All I can remember that I couldn't breath when I was lying down. Had to sleep sitting up. Perhaps this is what's upsetting your little man. Maybe try a different feeding position where he is a bit more upright? HTH

Hope someone comes along soon with a better solution. Must be very distressing.

ds2 had this at 6 weeks.

It can be frighteniong. Did he receive treatment in a and e?

A damp towel on the radiator helps, steamy bathroom too.
Elevate the head end of his cot.

They have a tendancy to bring back their milk as they are full of mucus.
Little \and often is the key

Ds had it when he was quite small.
Putting him in his car seat or a bouncy chair to sleep helped, as did holding him upright. Keep trying with the feeding, and if you think he's worse take him back to the Drs, my neighbour had both her sons hospitalised with it when they were tiny, so it can be serious.

I ended up expressing for a few days to ensure dd didn't get dehydrated as it was less effort for her to feed from a bottle. Fed little and often. Humidifier and raised bed head helped too.

Yes, my dd just had it. She also has a floppy larynx, and was just four weeks old - both of which are possibly why she had it really badly.

I expressed milk, which helped a lot as I could feed her sitting up...but in her case, we ended up in A&E, then in hospital, then in HDU for over a week as she just couldn't cope without extra help. It was really, really scary - but the ward was FULL of babies with bronchiolitis, and they all got well.

If you feel worried about your ds's breathing or feeding, don't hesitate to go back to A&E for advice - and, just in case they haven't told you (I bet they have though) it does tend to get worse before it gets better. Turning point is usually around day 5 or 6, and the whole thing usually lasts about 10 days from start to finish. I hope he gets well really soon, wihtout any need for further treatment!
