Fed up? Stuck in? Off work? Can't eat? Can't play? Can't or don't want to burden your nearest and dearest? Fancy a bit of a vent?

I'm currently on day infinity of partial house arrest

dx with microscopic colitis this time last year- all good

now having a total bastard of a flare that's been going since January and shows no sign of fucking off

I. AM. SO. BORED. OF. THIS

last week I had to take a poo sample to the gps. Again. The receptionist showed me the elaborate way you're supposed to arrange the bag and label, but I said 'ooh don't worry shsowing me love, that's the last one of these you'll be getting from me'

and less than a fucking week later, there I was again this morning, with me warm bottle clutched in my fist. And I STILL didn't know how to fold the label

I'm worried it might be uc instead. The symptoms seem to tally.

I really really don't want uc. I really really really don't want Crohns can't spell it

anyway. Enough about me. How about YOU

That is so interesting! Every single food on the high histamine list sets me off!

Simmi1 · 22/06/2016 08:09

oh if only there was a magic pill that would make all bowel problems disappear! I can live in hope Grin

HisNameWasPrinceAndHeWasFunky · 22/06/2016 10:03

fanjo this article goes into histamine issues in more detail:

JeepersMcoy · 22/06/2016 17:30

That histamine stuff is really interesting. Quite a lot of the foods do overlap with the foods high in fodmap, but a few of the ones that don't are things I have noticed I am starting to react to but am not sure why. Notably the smoked and processed meats. There is a particular gf sausage I was getting on really well with but the last few times I have had it I have had a dodgy stomach afterwards. The same with some hams. I might have to start up my food diary again and see what comes up and whether it really does match.

mrs brady - I second ringing the hospital.
I was seen in may and told to go for tests and consultant would see me when the results were in. ive had my tests but my appointment wont be til late august.
I have spoken to the hospital today as I am on the toilet 20plus times a day and feeling like I cant eat anything without it going through. she has promised me that she will talk to consultant and get me seen by someone.
I know it may not happen and I may have just been fobbed off but its always worth a try. I just explained that I was struggling to cope and needed something done before aug/sep

HisNameWasPrinceAndHeWasFunky · 23/06/2016 10:21

So this morning I had a proper normal fantastic poo!

When this happens (its rare these days but very welcome) I have a small moment of feeling utterly amazingly incredible, empty, powerful, like the best I have ever felt. It is such a fantastic feeling. And then a feeling that lasts for a few hours of being light and blissful.

I guess these feelings are highlighted after feeling so ruined "by poo" for so long.

HisNameWasPrinceAndHeWasFunky · 23/06/2016 10:58

Sorry it that was TMI Grin

barbet · 23/06/2016 11:31

Not at all. A good poo is splendid! When the body does what it's meant to (whether that's sleep or exercise or waste management) it feels brilliant Smile

MrsBrady · 23/06/2016 16:33

Prince a couple of months ago, I DREAMED I did that poo

it was one that blocked the toilet Blush

I did that thing- you know, where you wake up still smiling- I was so pleased with myself- then reality dawns...

I swear I felt bereft for the whole morning. My dream poo. Cruelly snatched from me

OP posts:
HisNameWasPrinceAndHeWasFunky · 23/06/2016 16:35

Ah MrsB lovely dream, too cruel reality!

OhSoggyBiscuit · 23/06/2016 17:03

Blah, yesterday's vegetable samosa lunch and Monday's pig out on spring rolls and chicken toast -drools- meant today I suffered. I'm sensitive to chilli and guess what was in all of that?

JeepersMcoy · 23/06/2016 18:44

I want a lovely poo! I just have horrible constipation and feel all full and yuck. Envy

fireandicecubes · 24/06/2016 23:02

The best poo I've ever had was the 1st one after my resection surgery last year. I needed help ( Senna & an enema) to go but it was the first 'normal' poo I'd had in years!!! I even rang DH to tell him about it Grin A normal bowel movement is a wonderful thing to those of us who suffer with problems.

MrsBrady I second the poster who said ring the hospital, I really do think all bowel issues should be dealt with far quicker then at present. Good luck & I hope you get an appointment sooner.

JeepersMcoy · 25/06/2016 07:57

Well, my stomach has been a mess since the referendum. My IBS is quite effected by stress so I don't think there is much hope for ever feeling right in the stomach again now.

ShortyShortLegs · 26/06/2016 01:00

Oh dear ...I got a letter from the hospital this morning saying I had been put on the waiting list for surgery and I need to contact them at my earliest convenience. Presumably that means the stool sample results are in. It can't possibly mean actual surgery as I haven't had the colonoscopy etc. yet. And the date for my private hernia clinic consultation too. After months of waiting, its all happening at once!

Simmi1 · 26/06/2016 01:36

Shorty, now that I consider myself a bowel problem patient expert, having suffered for nearly a year, I can't think of anything that would show in a stool sample that would mean you need surgery. I agree you would need A colonscopy for that. Don't panic! 💐

ShortyShortLegs · 26/06/2016 14:31

Thanks Simmi1 - I'm sure it must mean I'm on the list for colonoscopy, not surgery but my heart did a flutter when I saw 'surgery'!!

fanjolamps · 27/06/2016 23:01

shorty yes colonoscopy is classed as day surgery so that must be what your letter is referring too.

ShortyShortLegs · 28/06/2016 09:56

Thanks Fanjolamps, it was for an endoscopy....booked for the 14th July! GPs surgery says the stool sample results are not in yet.

Can I ask, if you need surgery for Crohns, is it done as keyhole or open? Just wondering as I've been told I'm too complicated for keyhole due to the amount of previous surgeries, after being promised a hysterectomy which I now can't have.

MrsBrady · 28/06/2016 10:46

shorty weren't you the Query Coeliac?

Sozzles on my phone which is almost as auld decrepit and fucked as me...

Good luck with the endo (thats the down the throat one? Unless you are really REALLY nails, take the sedative!)

OP posts:
Simmi1 · 28/06/2016 11:45

Yeah endoscopy is down the throat - I didn't feel a thing with sedation! After 9 months of hell my IBS is finally turning a corner and I'm having normal poos and symptom free days. However a few days ago I suddenly developed Uti type symptoms (needing to wee frequently and bladder pain) only for urine results to show no infection! Do not understand what's going on with my body at the moment! Sad

ShortyShortLegs · 28/06/2016 19:06

Yep, my GP thought Coeliacs, but gastro doc said maybe Crohns when I started listing my symptoms so I've had to do a stool sample for Calprotectin. No results yet though.
I WILL be taking the sedative! I'd probably throw up if I didn't, not good with things in my mouth.
I had the letter today, which says no acid inhibitors for 2 weeks before endoscopy....I'm on 20mg Omeprazole per day for horrendous heartburn, without it I get permanent heartburn, vomiting, chest pain and palpitations. I don't know how I'll cope, I had to come off Omeprazole recently and was put on double dose of Ranitidine with unlimited Gaviscon, after 6 weeks I begged the doctor to let me go back to Omeprezole as I was in agony.

I get those UTI symptoms a lot of the time Simmi1, no idea why though.

MrsBrady · 28/06/2016 19:34

god shorty that sounds properly shit

Flowers

I went to the gp today and because Budesonide isn't working they've ramped me up to prednisolone

the gp is cross as the September hospital appointment I'd got was in response to the surgery re referring me as urgent

if it 's 12 weeks for Urgent, don't for the love of god get anything non urgent, south london peeps

OP posts:
fireandicecubes · 28/06/2016 21:57

My resection surgery for my Crohns was open as the surgeon thought it would be more complicated than it turned out to be. My scar is similar to a C Section scar just below my bikini line but that was because it was the lower bowel being operated on. I knew I'd be having open surgery but didn't know if I'd have a stoma until I woke up with out it.

I've had 2 endoscopies without sedation & they weren't too bad, but I was sedated for my colonoscopies. I also needed painkillers & gas & air for my last one as it was quite painful because it was only 8 weeks after my surgery & everything was still quite tender. To be honest the worst bit of the colonoscopies was the bowel prep drink the day before.

MrsBrady it's dreadful you have to wait that long, I'm in the North West & I waited 3 weeks for my first consultant appointment, about 3 weeks for my colonoscopy (but it was Christmas) & my surgery was urgent elective & I waited 4 weeks for that after I agreed to have it - I was admitted with an obstruction & only narrowly avoided an emergency op.

Hope everyone feels better soon Flowers

fanjolamps · 29/06/2016 03:31

I've never had a keyhole surgery for my crohns and I've had 4 to date. Always open. mrs brady are you going to St Georges? Reason I ask is that you could try and give the IBD nurse specialist a ring as they can expedite appointments! ( I'm under George's Dr poulis' team)
