Tick bites

Hi if anyone could advise on this i'd be very appreciative.

My daughter got 2 tick bites on Sunday am. We removed them by first putting on nail varnish remover and then extracting with our fingers. There is a little bit of one remaining, I'm not sure what part. Having just read up on it I'm now aware this was a mistake and we should have removed with no alcohol and with tweezers...

She's a bit pink and has a tummy ache, feeling v tired etc. Is it worth a trip to a&e or gp in the am? Thanks so much in advance

I would pay a visit to the GP and asap. Make sure you let your GP know if you've spent time in woodland or heath areas where ticks are known to live.

Unfortunately and as you now know the way you removed the tick was all wrong. You ideally need a tick removal tool which can be bought from a pet shop. If you use tweezers they need to be the pointed type, not anything like eyebrow tweezers.

You were not able to remove all the tick and the head likely remains. What has probably happened here is that the tick has regurgitated its stomach contents. Treatment for tick bites usually involve a course of antibiotics.

If there's a bullseye like rash you need to take her to A&E and get them to treat her for lyme's disease fast because otherwise it can result in a lifetime of fatigue and pain!
