she wears glasses, is very long sighted and the opto-watsit guy said she would probably devolope a squint as her axis is quite severe or something. she has just woken up, and before i put her glasses on her she looked at me and her left eye was going in. i got her to look straight at me and it is definatly turning in slightly. Do i need to make her an urgent eye clinic appointment, or can we carry on as we are till next appt in march?

TBH, misdee I would wait. A squint is only correctable to the age of 7, and as she is only 23 months old a few months won;t make a diffrence atm.

I would give them a ring and see how they want to do it.

My ds had squints in both eyes they tried to patch and but these things on his glasses but it didn't work.

He had an operation at separate time to correct it and he doesn't need to wear them any more he is longsighted.

I would give them a ring. Dd1 had a slight squint that we didn't pick up on until she was four, but the effect on her eyesight was so severe that even with glasses and patching she has very little vision in that eye. Not meaning to frighten you at all, misdee, just that it's not always true that they are "correctable" up to the age of 7. If she needs patching, then the sooner it starts the more likely it is to succeed.

My ds had his operations when he was 4 and 6.

i'll give the eye clinic a call in the morning and see what they say.

What did the clinic say ?

Definitely worth checking, misdee.

My son's squint was picked up at 4.5 yrs old (it was so subtle, absolutely no one could see it). Despite discovering at a relatively early age, they couldn't patch it or do surgery. That was 5 years ago. He will always need glasses. He is still assessed regularly by the opthalmologist/orthoptists at our local hospital.
I know every squint case is different but it's worth checking with the clinic.
