Is cerazette the implant? If so had it with very little side effect and it was great not taking pill every day!!
Wot about the mini pill? I couldnt take combined pill for the same reasons and the mini pill worked great for me - less hormones too!!!!!!

there have been a few threads about cerazette and the experiences are mixed!

My experience wasn't good - had awful mood swings and used to scare my family with my rages. Came off that, tried Depo-Provera injection which didn't suit me either. Just started Femulen (another minipill) and am getting horrid rashes and boils under my arms! Also I have been bleeding for 4 weeks now So it's a good contraceptive as I obviously don't feel much in the mood at the moment

try an archive search and see what you think!

Cerazette is a new type of mini pill, the side effects you've mentioned can happen with any of the mini pills but a lot of women find they get little or no bleeding after a few packets.

If you feel better off the pill then why not stay off it? Have you thought about a coil? Less hassle than a cap or condoms if DP isn't keen.

Sugarmagnolia · 17/01/2007 11:29

I tried cerazette for 3 months - my skin was awful on it and I got a full period every other week. I'm afraid the news is not good - I've tried the mirena coil and 4 different pills in the last 2 1/2 years and am fed up with the lot. Currently I'm on Microgynon but find my moods are terrible. So when I finish this pack it's going to be abstinence for us until we can figure out another solution!

Aimsmum - was much like you tried all sorts of pills - but awful migraines with everything. Suggested I tried Cerazette - but no bleeding at all, terrible nausea, migraines not cured. Gave up on the pills completely - now use condoms!

I had huge rages on Cerazette too. When I told the doc she appeared to disbelieve me as that wasn't one of the side effects. I only took it for 8 days.

I must have written it a hundred times here, but here goes again.

Cerazette was an unmitigated DISASTER for me!

  • sex drive: gone in 60 seconds. NONE.
  • bleeding, bleeding, bleeding. Full on period every other week.
  • skin: huge, painful boil, cystic acne on my chest and shoulders that bled through my clothes and made it painful to carry a handbag
  • mood swings and made my PND sooooo bad.

That was the first time and the LAST time I ever use progesten-based contraception again.

Cerazette works brilliantly for me.

I had a light show constantly for 3 months and then absolutley nothing at all.

My PMT disappeared overnight and my skin is the best its ever been.

I'm due to start cerazette in 3 weeks. Am a bit nervous but hopeful I actually am seriously considering mirena coil and voiced concerns to doc, who suggested I try cerazette for 3 months and if side effects not ok, then I'll get mirena fitted. I think it varies widely from what I've read and there's no way of knowing whether you'll be great or terrible on it. Seems to be either really good or really bad tho.

Doc seemed to think that side effects should be lower than on combined pill, as the oestrogen is often the cause of problems?

I did actually take it a long time ago (well, 3 years) and for the life of me can't remember why I stopped or if I had bad side effects with it. How dumb is that, so I need to take it all over again to find out. Silly me.

Mum2L · 17/01/2007 23:21

Mini pills worked great for me. But no pills at all is best now as I feel the body works best without the complications of extra hormones. So he has to put a condom on if he wants some - roll on the male pill!!

cuppa · 18/01/2007 07:32

since reading this, I'm tempted to forgette cerazette and hjust go straight for mirena. If I have 3 months of breakthrough bleeding on cerazette, followed by 3 - 6 months of it on mirena, t's going to be a bloody long and miserable 9 months. WHat do people think?

emmatomATO · 18/01/2007 09:17

I know how difficult the decision is. When I was constantly having a show for 3 months I was thinking bloody hell, is it always going to be like this. I asked the doc if I could change to the coil after about 2 months and she said of course I could, but if the coil caused a problem too then I could be back at square one.

She said it was always worth the wait of 3 months to give your body time to settle into things - and she was right. As I said after the 3 months, everything turned around overnight. No bleed, no PMT, lovely skin.

So maybe you should give the pill 3 months and if you're lucky like me then great, but if not then you know you have another option.

I have tried EVERY pill on the market! since i was 16, and i have had terrible migraines (lasting up to a week), messed up periods and spectaular mood swings!!!! I have tried cerazette, and the side effects were not terrible but not great either, the advantage is that you have the 12 hours to remeber to take instead of the standard 3hours like most mini pills. I would def try it,and give it 3 months, because your body needs chance to adjust to the different levels of hormones!
I have now found my saviour: Depo, its the injection, it lasts for 12 weeks, no periods, and apart from the very 1st time i had it, no mood swings!!!
