The Cochrane network of scientists are extremely well regarded and staunchly INDEPENDENT - they produce reviews of published research and are generally taken very seriously. The Nordic Cochrane group yesterday published a damning indictment against the European Medicines Agency in relation to it's safety review of the HPV vaccination last year, and an incredibly strong letter of complaint has been submitted to the EMA.

Any parent who is considering giving consent for the HPV vaccination for their teenage daughter should read this document.

The investigation by the EMA into POTS and CRPS as possible side effects of the HPV vaccination took place after a safety signal was raised by neurologists in Denmark:

Millions of girls around the world have had this vaccination without any side effects - however a safety signal was raised and an investigation was carried out. The Nordic Cochrane Centre are very critical of the way in which the investigation was carried out and the conclusions reached.

A safety signal has also been raised by the WHO Uppsala Monitoring Centre for gastrointestinal disorders following HPV vaccination.

Consumers should be aware of this as they are entitled to make an informed decision as to whether to proceed with the vaccination.

As someone who has had multiple surgeries due to pre cancerous cells in my cervix, plus a cervical stitch when pregnant...possibly the most traumatic time of my life, as I have almost zero cervix left, I'm all for this vaccine. I had it myself a few years ago.

Ifiwasabadger - I'm not advocating for people not to have the vaccine (I am not anti-vaccination) - my point is that there are some safety concerns around this vaccine and the public are not aware. Furthermore an investigation has been carried out that independent analysts consider to be unsatisfactory.
There are, unfortunately, girls and young women around the world who have been left bed-bound and very ill - they were told the vaccine was very safe with only minor side effects.

I don't understand Louise Brinth being called a "whistle blower". As far as I know, her job & her employer are not involved in administering HPV vaccines much less covering up any data. Instead her team has openly & with institutional support published several observational articles about proposed links between HPV jab & POTS. There are other articles in peer-review literature that suggest similar.

Tom Jefferson has an interesting anti-vaccine reputation.

It's also weird that they basically take a long list of Brinth's assertions about lack of EMA transparent procedure (a hobby horse of TJ's as long as it has to do with vaccines) & put them out as a statement of the Nordic Cochrane group. I guess Peter C Gøtzsche has never been afraid of maverick statements, though. Eg, he's a mammogram-skeptic (I kind of agree with his research there, though).

The press release moans about conflicts of interest among those giving evidence, but you can find articles coauthored by TJ where he had to put down many COIs.

The Brinth papers are mildly interesting, epidemiologically not definitive. They suggest maybe a weak chronological association (or maybe not). The proposed mechanism how HPV would be so toxic is odd given that it's supposedly toxic ingredients are in so many other jabs more commonly given.

The problem is that the EMA allowed the drug companies to do the data collection and analysis without apparently any audits or verification and, as highlighted by the Cochrane team, the figures were 'adjusted' to suit their case - how was it ever going to be OK for the drug companies to override the diagnoses made by POTS specialists and consultants, especially without having access to the patients' medical records.

My daughter is one of the girls who was extremely healthy prior to her vaccination and severely ill after her vaccination, and she has been left with POTS which is a serious and debilitating neurological condition.

My daughter had her baby vaccinations and I didn't hesitate for her to have this one because we have a lot of cancer in my family - both paternal grandparents died from cancer and my father has had three different and separate cancers in the last 20 years, which thankfully he has survived. I know the devastation of cancer, but the devastation of having your daughter's life left in tatters at the age of 13 because of a preventative measure for something she probably wouldn't have got anyway, is beyond words.

For those that believe it's worth the risk to get the protection from Cervical Cancer, I'd also like to share that my now 18 year old daughter is under a specialist gynaecologist in London because of gynaecological abnormalities. There are small pieces of research starting to emerge that are showing vaccinated women are less likely than non vaccinated women to be infected with HPV16&18 (the vaccine strains - and it isn't 100% protection) BUT they are MORE likely than unvaccinated women to be infected with non-vaccine high risk strains of HPV - there are around 15 high risk strains altogether.

This was always a concerns, and was highlighted by the FDA when they licenced the vaccines - the the non-vaccine strains of HPV would fill the void left if strains 16&18 were kept at bay. No-one knows how this will pan out, if the other high risk strains will be more aggressive or less aggressive, or whether it will literally open pandora's box.

This is the kicker with the HPV vaccine, as my daughter gynae told her - no-one actually knows what the effect of mass vaccination will be on the girls or on the rates of cervical cancer.

I've just added a new thread. We weren't given any information about any possible side effects. I'm feeling really angry and lost right now. I'm new to this mumsnet thing but if anyone could read my thread and possibly offer advice I would be eternally grateful.

Hopefully this adds to the information so many do not know and realise, in addition to the damning verdicts of the Nordic Cochrane authors. TJ has been accused of being anti vax merely because of his accurare assesments over such products as the ibfkuenza vaccines and lack of any evidence of actual accurate influenza mortality data. He is nothing of the sort, but he is highly critical of the broken and inherently dishonest system of pharnaceutical regukatiin and trials..

Hi - My dd is due to receive the HPV vaccine this year. The posts on here all date back to 2016 and seem fairly anti. Does anyone have any more recent information regarding pros and cons? Thanks.

not sure if i’m posting in the correct section but my daughter had the hpv (gardasil) vaccination back in 2015 and 2016 and was a totally healthy and very active child. since having the vaccination,she became ill and was subsequently diagnosed with cfs/m.e early 2017. i am just wondering what people’s views are on this vaccination and maybe other people’s/their child experience if any after this vaccination?
