anyone know of any good herbal remedies for a good nights sleep? I don't know why, but I just havent been sleeping well lately (trouble falling to sleep, frequently waking and the sleep I am getting is very bad quality).

I have never had trouble sleeping before so this is really annoying (I love my sleep )

I don't want to pump myself full of medication. Does all that 'Nytol' stuff work? Is that herbal anyway

help needed from you very kind MNetters purlease

Passiflora & valarian are both herbal sedatives. Very mild, won't knock you out. I found passiflora the better of the two myself.

thanks. Will it leave me feeling drowsy the next morning at all?

nytol will really knock you out. Herbal does not mean it won't knock you for six!

Try lavendar and cut back on caffine. I sleep badly and it is horrid. Bach flower remedies are good too.

poppiesinaline · 16/01/2007 10:39

I only have one cup of tea in the morning. Thats about the only caffine I have.

I have tried Lavender and it doesnt seem to do anything.

I want something that will make me sleep really nicely but won't leave me feeling yuk the next morning iyswim.

I sympathise for those who have this problem long term... its horrible.

ooh I was going to start a thread like this

I tried Nytol a few nights ago and thought it was really good. Woman in Boots told me to get the weakest strength one and only take one tablet (think it says take two) and see how it went.

I didn't wake up feeling lousy at all but had that spaced out feeling for a bit (but probably because the kids got me up too early). If you do take it, take it on a day where your partner (if poss) can have the kids in the morning so that you can wake up leisurely.

I have always had trouble sleeping (even as a child) - have you tried any relaxation breathing? that's often very effective as is clearing your mind and trying to make it focus on one image (like a candle or a beach or somewhere that relaxes you).

there's a tea called sleepytime tea by celestial seasonings - its got bears on the packet and it works for me.. you can get it at sainsbury's and most health food shops.
couuld you try having a hot bath before bedtime to relax you?

liath · 16/01/2007 19:50

I didn't feel hung over with either of them.

poppies I empathise with you entirely. I havent slept well for years and it is exhausting. For me, it all relates to what is going on in the rest of my life. (stress, worry etc). We mustn't underestimate these external factors in our lives. xxxxxxxxxxxx
