8 WEEK OLD GOING FOR 1ST IMMUNISATIONS...V V V ANXIOUS. WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT?

My son will be 8 weeks old on the day of his immunisations and I would like any advice on what to expect in the hours following them. I've read/heard that high temperature, sore limb from injection, being unsettled and generally poorly is common place. Is this the general outcome and reassurance that I'm not subjecting him to undue suffering and that he will be fine would be MUCH appreciated! My general mood at this time is one of great anxiety and dread as hes such a happy and contented wee boy that I think its just the thought of him becoming poorly afterwards that is really clouding my judgement.

Every child different!! Dd cried all day, needed lots of hugs + calpol. DS didnit bat an eyelid - didn't even need calpol

Try to let your anxieties go, if you can, because he will pick up on them.

Not all babies have an adverse reaction though most object to the needle itself. If you are breastfeeding its a good idea to put them straight to the breast after because its instantly soothing. You could do worse than have some calpol in jsut in case of high temperatures, some people give them calpol beforehand as a precautionary measure but I've always preferred to wait and see.

Try not to worry Kylah, whatever happens any reaction will be temporary and he will be back to his normal self. My experience was that my ds was furious with rage that someone had dared to stick something in his arm, it was quite upsetting for a new paraniod mum that I was, but he settled quickly. I gave calpol anyway as advised by the nurse and had no other problems.

Just remember that what you are doing is for his long term health.

yes try to relax and if he does run a temp and have a sore limb then all ou will need to do is give him calpol and lots of cuddles and he will be fine

but he may not even do that at all, dd1 did, dd2 didn't

Thanks everyone, really needed the reassurance from someone as mother and mother in law are totally opposed to the things. Because he's a 13lb baby he shoudlnt need it according to them. Feel like Im doing the right thing for his long term health so thanks for the advice.
