Hello, anyone had one? If so what were your symptoms, how was it diagnosed and what was the treatment?

Hi Mincepies! I am currently awaiting surgery for a SLAP tear in my shoulder - is this what you mean by a labral tear? My symptoms were pain across my shoulder and especially when holding/weight bearing (which makes sense as it involves the bicep tendon).

I was diagnosed via an MRI scan and am having arthroscopic surgery in a couple of weeks. I've been advised that it's a long recovery and that I'll need around a month off work (desk job).

Hi, I think I have one of the hip. Waiting for an MRI...first went to docs in October, it's taking ages to get anywhere and it hurts!

I had an MRI for hip pain a few years ago and a labralbtear and fraying was mentioned. The surgeon wasn't very concerned by it, seemed to regard it as wear and tear. The pain I had settled down anyway but it was complicated because I had a disc prolapse around the same time so it was tricky working out what was what.

Hi, I have just had an MRI and CT scan due to many years of hip pain. Orthopaedic surgeon has diagnosed a labral tear. You're right they are painful! I'm undecided as to what to do, whether to have an arthroscopy to fix the tear, or just leave it alone and suffer. Surgeon said fixing the tear wont necessarily take away the pain. It's tricky as my pain is manageable but I can't really do any exercise other than cycling and swimming - low impact only! I'd like to get back into running.

Hmm I wonder if that's what I have physios seem to want to tell me it's referred pain from my lumbar spine but the symptoms sound just like the pain I have, particularly at the front. It's horrible if that's what it is.

It is horrible I too want to get back to running...actually walking without pain would be a start!

Yeah I had to give up running but I swim instead, though decided I'm too old now and done with running anyway. I even contemplated aqua aerobics but not ready to go there yet!

I saw the physio today after going to the doctor following months of hip pain, doc mentioned a labral tear but physio thinks it bursitis.
Really painful when moving after sitting for more than 20 min and walking is getting more difficult.

I'm not overly convinced about bursitis as reading up on it it seems like something that should improve after a few weeks of rest and I haven't exercised since April.
Got a number of exercises to do over the next couple of week then go back, what I really want is a referal for a scan to say for sure what's going on in there but as usual the doctor just refers to the physio who takes ages to do anything further.

I play rugby and now we are off season this was surpose to be the time to get in some good fitness training, but not going to happen!

i had arthroscopic surgery five years ago for a labral tear.Mine was quite bad and when they operated they found that I had worn away part on the cartilidge inside the joint so they did a proceedure whereby the drilled hundreds of little holes into the bone to generate scar tissue .

I was non weight bearing for 6 weeks which was difficult and am not entirely pain free now but it was so much better and definitely worth it .

I feel your pain Youlemming! I had an X-Ray which shows I have a transitional vertebra (congenital thing, probably not cause of my hip pain) but GP referred me to physio...total waste of time. It's taken almost a year to see a hip specialist and get to be in the queue for an MRI. It's so frustrating! I'm 39 and I can't even go for a long walk...grrrr!

Yellow, was yours diagnosed by MRI? Sounds unpleasant but glad it's better than it was for you.

Yes eventually , initially had had all the physio etc etc which it turned out was a waste of time . I ended up having mine done privately in Cambridge as my health authority st the time didn't do the op I needed .

Yellow, did you find it was just the inside of your hip/groin that hurt? All the soft tissue around my hip and thigh feels bruised, all the time. I've had an ultrasound and don't have a bursitis (didn't think I did). Everything is just sore

Hi, reviving old thread, Mincepies any progress with yours? I have got same as you - transitional vertebra and labral hip tear, is your tv and tear on same side? Very painful and achy and sore all time, really limiting what I can do.

Hello, sent you a message... but no, TV is on the left and bad hip is the right (although left hip twinging a bit now)
Are you seeing an orthopaedic surgeon?
