Is This Chickenpox?

Took off dd's pajamas this morning to find about a dozen red spots on her torso and upper arms. I suspect that it is chicken pox as many children in the area have it at the moment. However, what's giving me pause is the fact that we've just returned from 17 months in America where her nursery required a chicken pox immunisation shot - which we complied with. So, is it possible that these spots could be chicken pox? Suppose I thought we'd avoid it thanks to the protection provided by the immunisation. Maybe what it will do is cause this to be a very minimal case?

By the way, she seems fine this morning. Is not itching the spots - almost like they're not there as far as she's concerned. Is there anything I can do to help her? Anything to stop it becoming more severe? We had planned a trip to the park/playground today - should we stay away?

Friend had her dd given the Chickenpox vaccine because she had skin problems due to food allergies. However she was warned that her dd could still get it but more mildly and would be less irritating for her skin. I think you should avoid child-populated places even if it doesn't trouble her as she would be contagious until they are all out and crusted over.

If she does start scratching at the spots you could give her piriton to ease the itching, and dab calomine lotion on them - worked a treat for my dd's who caught it aged 2 and 3.

Also teaspoon of Bicarb of Soda in a tepid bath worked well for ds. We also didn't mention the "I" word so I don't think it ever crossed his mind to scratch them fortunately.
