It is all over her chest, she has a small patch of itchy eczema in the middle of her chest, and this faded purple looking rash is all over her chest.

I don't think it is anything sinister as she is completely well, but wondering what on earth is causing it?

btw posted this earlier under another name but got no response, so trying again

first, have you done the glass test? second, is it a viral rash after a bout of ill health?

I haven't done the glass test, as she seems well. Also she has had the same rash once before on her neck (again around eczema)but fainter and not so widespread

Don't think it i just eczema bacause it is not itchy, and is under the skin rather than on it iyswim. Could it be a reaction to the eczema?

Do the glass test to be sure.
If she suffers from eczema alot then her skin will be prone to rashes. Could be an allergic reaction, stress too hot, cold.

lornaloo · 14/01/2007 21:56

Basically anything going on inside her body might be showing on the outide. Happens to me all the time. I get a red lokking rash on my neck when I drink if im stressed or upset.

Wallace · 14/01/2007 22:01

Thanks, I will do the glass test to make sure. I will pop her into the GP to check as well.

Could it mean the ezema is infected, do you think?

dh currently has a rash under his skin, like cleeding under his skin. he is fine as well. not fading under glass either. BUT as he has had this before and its been put down to his medicatin interaction we arent seeking medical advice. if it was one of my children then i would seek medical advice.

Wallace · 14/01/2007 22:08

OK, you're right If it is still there in the morning I will take her to the GP

Misdee - dd has similar on her feet at the moment. And her chilblains look more like frost-bite. The joys of crap circulation

Sorry for hijack Wallace. Hope your dd is OK.

Was hoping someone would say their dc gets this around their eczema all the time, but if is not familiar to you eczema veterans then I must get it checked.

Pretty sure it is not HR for my dd. The bad flareup of eczema she has on her chest is also on her surgery scar, and has been scratched to pieces so I should check it isn't infected

Wallace sorry I read it as your dp had rash. My post was aimed at an adult getting a rash. Don't think your dd would have stress .

What cream are you using on the eczema?
Bubble bath, fragranced washing powder and anything with perfume in used to make mine flare up as a child. Try and avoid anything like this come into contact with her skin (if you don't already).

Ds always gets a rash when he's abit poorly. Gp always says its just a viral rash. Could it be this?

jetgirl · 17/01/2007 23:55

My dd has erythema multiforma - a rash caused when a virus overloads her system. the first time she got it we were terrified - purple and blotchy, but it fades to bruising - she has it again with chickenpox and I think she will often react to a virus like that. It could be the same as your dd's rash, but it's always difficult to go on descriptions without seeing it. Go to the GP and get it checked anyway, that's what they're there for! Hope your dd is ok.
