Partially erupted upper impacted wisdom tooth removal.

It's being done under local anathesia next Monday. I'm usually happy to go to the dentist and have thorough cleans, a filling if required etc but I'm getting anxious about the extraction. The tooth is coming in sideways and is the furthest top left at the back.
The tooth is only partially through and I can't see how the dentist is going to be able to grab it to get it out.
Any reassuring stories before I chicken out please?

I had a partially erupted lower impacted wisdom tooth removed at a hospital with a local and it was fine. The tooth was badly infected and I had to wait months for it to be taken out. I had read all these wisdom teeth removal horror stories and scared myself silly for no reason at all.

I had no problems during its removal or afterwards. It healed quickly and was much like other teeth I had taken out as a child (a peg tooth).

I had this done a few years ago... it involved a fair bit of pulling (which was more funny than anything!) and I think the dentist had to open/sew up a little bit, nothing major though! I felt pretty bruised afterwards but certainly not as bad as I had feared!

Had this done just under 2 weeks ago it needed a couple of stiches and took 10 mins wasn't the best way to spend 10 mins but it feels better now. All I would say is make sure you have some painkillers only needed them a couple of days and some good make up I was bruised for a week but honestly it wasn't too bad

OP - dentist told me yesterday that they actually push the tooth and loosen it from the ligaments holding it in ,they only pull it at the end when it's very loose .

But more to the point he advised me to let him worry about it .

I had this done a few years ago whilst pregnant. The dentist wouldn't have recommended the procedure if they didn't think they could do it. Try to relax! You won't feel a thing and it will be so much better when it is out and no longer sore and uncomfortable.

The socket might be quite deep and you should take extra care to avoid dry socket by following the dentists advice after the tooth has been removed.

Just to update you in case anyone is imminently having this done, I had it out this morning, was extremely easy and out in 30 seconds. Just a bit of pushing and twisting and pop out it came. I was home within 20 minutes. The numbing injections were probably the worst bit of it all!
