Should I be concerned?

Just received a call from my DM.

She couldn't remember her PIN number. The only ones she's had, exactly same number for 10+ years.

There are a few other things recently that have me a little concerned for her memory.

What is the stage I should be a lot more concerned?

The PIN number thing is the 'biggest' one.

How old is DM?

WorriedDD90 · 09/05/2016 15:26

She's 54

My DM is 64 this year and does sometimes get a little forgetful, sometimes tells me stories repeatedly but honestly I think that's pretty normal. I'd say that if your gut tells you that something isn't right then perhaps it's wise to have a sensitive chat with her. Is there anything stressful in her life at the moment? Job? Money? 54 does seem to be a bit young for "senior moments". What are the other incidents you've noticed?

Repeated stories. Forgetting she's seen me on a certain day. Mixing up her shift work times.

Stuff like that.

I think that she should def go and talk to her GP about it if its becoming more frequent that she forgets things, preferably with a member of the family to help give examples. Theres lots of reasons it might happen, but its worth getting checked out.

Sorry to disappear, I'm a fairly new mum and tasks like MN can be easily forgotten. I came back to see if anyone had said anything else. I do agree then that she should really see a doctor. I don't think the things you've described are normal for a 54yo to forget IMO. I hope you get some answers Flowers.

Is your mum under a large amount of stress?

I'm not as old as your mum but when I've had prolonged stress I've forgot my pin. I've had to walk around for a minute or so before I remember it.

Is your mum worried about it?

I think it'd be a good idea to let her know you're a bit concerned and that a GP appointment would be a good idea
How long have you noticed her memory worsening? And has it been gradual or sudden?
I'm a nurse in a GP surgery and we do lots of referrals to memory clinic that turn out to be nothing but always best to have it checked than to leave it and hope it'll go away. It'd be rare for it to be anything sinister like Alzheimer's at 54 though x

I am 52. I forgot the pin number for my phone - it was the same number as my bicycle lock from when I was 19. I remembered it eventually........

I also forgot my credit card pin the other day. Total blank.

I don't think I am going mad at all.
