Anyone had an epidural steroid injection for herniated disc?

Have been diagnosed with herniated/collapsed disc in lower back. Finally have an appointment with pain clinic after 6 months on the waiting list.

Have been told they may give me an epidural steroid injection at this appointment. Feeling nervous but also hoping it will go ahead to help get rid of the constant pain.

Anyone had one and wish to share how the found the procedure and did it work?

Yes!!! And it was a miracle cure after months (years?) of physio etc. It was years ago but I can't remember that it was too traumatic.

Now I am just very careful never to lift anything ( and if I forget and start getting a twinge, I have a supply of naproxen)

Sorry for resurrecting a zombie thread but I'm being considered for this treatment. Either this or surgery to remove or reduce the part of the disc that's causing me horrible pain. Does anyone know something about treating debilitating pain associated with a herniated disc?

I had this 5 years ago, it was amazing! After months of agony it completely solved it

I've had 4 of these. The first 3 gave me great relief. The last one, a couple of years ago, didn't go so well, so I haven't had any since.

As with most treatments /surgeries there are risks so you do have to consider these.

My DH has. He was crying in pain in the waiting room before his appointment. The injection worked pretty much instantly. This was quite a few years ago (8?) and he's not needed another one since. I think it still ranks as one of the best days of his life, probably higher than our wedding

Oh, thank you! I've been suffering since early March. I can't sit for more than a couple of minutes, driving is agony, pain relief meds don't work. Surgery would take months of waiting and going private is out of the question financially. The specialist I saw (privately) can offer the injection which is hideously expensive but still within the realms of possibility.

There are certain risk factors involved with the injection. They're rare but terrifying: paralysis, nerve damage, allergic reaction, haemorrhage... I just wanted to hear what others have experienced. If the outcome is really good, I'll take a chance.

Anyone else?

I'm due one in early July after 10 years of pain. So no experience of the injection, I'm nervous but hopefully it will work!
