Hello everyone

Hope someone can help

My DD2 age 3 has an itchy bottom, it started last night and is driving her mad. She keeps leaping in the air and screaming and trying to itch it.

Has anyone had any experience of this, could it be worms? I know as children we had worms but this was abroad and did not think it happened here.

Shall I take her to the doctor?

most likely worms

v common

have you had a look when she's very itchy - normally evening time? you may see a few worms peeking out

you can get stuff to deal with it over the counter (speak to the pharmacist) if that's what it is

and the worms they tend to get in the UK are threadworms

I too was used to worms abroad but many more types than what they get here

Yes it is mostly in the evenings or was last night, had a look but can't see anything.

Will go to the chemist.

Thankyou very much.

Check when she is asleep with a torch or a piece of selotape (the worms will stick to the tape!)
You will definately see them then is she has them

If it is threadworms you will def see it in her bowel motions.

Sounds pretty likely she has them though, its no big deal, the chemist will give you something over the counter.

If you phone your Dr they may leave a prescription for your child at the desk for you to pick up (they do this at our surgery) and then the tablets won't cost you anything.

[grin} ok will do that tonight, the things we Mums have to do {{sigh}}

sorry typing went a bit mad.

You can get stuff from the chemist, you don't need to see the doctor.
Make sure she washes her hands really well after the loo and before eating, as they spread really easily and your whole family may end up with them.

My sister used to get them all the time as a kid, apparently through chewing nails and a lack of hand washing, I remember we ALL Mum, Dad, Bro & Sis had to drink a 'special' strawberry milkshake to make them go away. I remember asking mum how she could be sure my sister had them and she said she wiped her bottom whilst she was asleep! I was most put out at the time probably 5/6!

So would agree with isgrassgreener as we had to have them as a family because they spread so easily.

i have just discovered that my 2.5 dd and 8 month ds2 have got threadworms - i have called the docs and they are putting a script out for us - i am now going to spend the day washing clothing and bedding - yippee - could anyone advise on who should be told, ie how long ago do i go back to who she was playing with (one week, 2 weeks etc)?

isnt it just dandy and glamourous being a mummy!!!!!
