Permanent Period......

Any thoughts as to why I would have 3 week long periods for the last 3 months...? Have been to doc's and they gave me Mefanamic tablets to 'dry' me up. I have always had really short and to the point periods...

The girls in the office are beginning to wind me up saying I'm heading for the change (I am constantly too warm and have hot flushes)but I'm only 34!!!!!!!

Your story to me just highlights some GPs ignorance when it comes to dealing with gynaecological problems.

Your GP ought to refer you to a gynaecologist to be further evaluated. I would insist to your GP that you are referred to such a person and do not take no for an answer!!. Anaemia can also become a problem if you are having very heavy periods as well.

Fibroids for instance can cause both heavy and prolonged bleeding.

I have had heavy periods that last for 2 1/2 weeks a time for the last 20 months and they are getting worse.

Have had scans etc and all is fine. GP says its hormonal. I have been taking Agnus Castus for 4 months but havent noticed any change yet.

GP says my only answer is to go back on the pill but DH has had the snip and the pill doesnt agree with me.

She has mentioned Mefanamic which would help the heaviness but not the length. Is it any good?

When you find an answer Longlegs - please let me know.

This may not be exactly what you want to hear but I had 3-4 week periods for about 7-8 months about 8 years ago. I went to GP and they did the same, Mefanamic at first, then the pill with no breaks but it didnt work. I was evenutally referred to the consultant gynae (after 3 months) but by the time I had my appointment it had just stopped. [typical! emoticon]
Had tests anyway and internal scan and apart from being slightly anaemic (no shit) everything was fine.

I never did have an explanation but had my DD last year so cant be too much wrong with me and it has never happened again...

I had this too along with various other strange bleeding patterns. Had laparoscopy but they didn't find anything, in the end they decided "rubbish hormones". It's been fine for quite a while now, I think it might have also been related to stress.

Seems they should do more investigation though?

Thanks ladies. I have made another appointment for Monday and will press for an appointment with a Gynae. I used to have endometriosis but the pain is nothing like that. In fact there doesn't seem to be much pain, can be tender to the touch though. Anyway, will find out and report back.

As for the effectiveness of the Mefanic, no doubt it works, it took a few days but I have stopped bleeding at least... At last I can get myself waxed!

Good to know also that you can concieve even when ther seems to be probs downstairs. And why is everything blamed on bloody hormones!!!! SUch a cop out!
