can anyone help with pulsing noise in ear?

Have posted before as I have a constant pulsing noise in my left ear. I went to an ENT who did an MRI which has thankfully excluded anything sinister. However, he does not know what is causing it and though I have a follow up at the end of the month I do get the impression that it will be a question of having to get used to the noise and live with it. It came on after a period of terrible stress - bereavement and other things.
I only really notice it at night and when it is very quiet. I have "normal" tinnitus anyway which I am completely used to and fine with.
Anyone suffer from this? What works for you?
TIA

do you have hearing loss as well? i have had this noise and quite bad hearing loss in one ear for about 6 years. i too had mri, blood tests, something where they wired me up to a computer and none of them could find out what it was. i have now been discharged from the hospital none the wiser.unfortunately, i've got to live with it. i was given a hearing aid but found it more hassle than help. they also tried anti histamines thinking it could be menieres disease( dont make the mistake of googling it like i did!!) but they didnt work.

good luck, i hoope you get it sorted.

Is it your own heart-beat? That's quite a common form of tinnitus which often goes hand-in-hand with "normal" tinnitus - it's called pulsatile tinnitus. You might find some information about it on the British Tinnitus Association website, but that seems to be down at the moment.

The reason it might be more distinct after a period of stress is because pulsatile tinnitus can be related to high blood pressure and also because there are arteries and veins that run next to the ear and sometimes they might be a little closer to the ear which is why you can effectively hear your own heart-beat.

Thanks everyone for responding. It is my own pulse I can hear as I have timed it. I have had my hearing tested but I do not have hearing loss.
Coolmama - haven't got high blood pressure though may have been raised when I was stressed. Does sound like I may have to live with it........

I too have had hearing loss, tinnitus and strange noises and have been investigated and then dissmissed with a 'not sure what it is but you will just have to live with it' diagnosis. It's just not on really that we have all go the same unsatisfactory result from the health service.
