have got them quite bad following birth of DD2. Was given cream by hospital which hasnt helped and if anything more have appeared so what are your best remedies for them as if it wasnt for them I would feel normal.

have you been to the GP?

in general terms, try not to strain for bowel movements so lots of fibre, fruit and veg and lots of fluid.

think you can push them back in (in the shower or bath) if they are really uncomfortable

otherwise GP for stronger creams and for them to have a look see

proctofoam

presription only but brill; don't let the doc give you anything else.

the heat of the bath will make them worse

search here for proctofaom as it has been mentioned before

foxinsocks · 10/01/2007 21:25

yes, I've had that cream once and it was very good - didn't make them go away though

loopylopey · 11/01/2007 08:21

i tried Scheriproct - on prescription from doctor - it worked really well, reduced the swelling after a couple of applications. Don't get the suppositories, get the cream.

I found Anusol absolutely useless.

My midwife gave me a gel that you could put in the freezer so it was like ice, and put it in my pants for about 3 hours, really helped! You could try ice wrapped up in a teatowel. the pain is unbelievable, i hope you get better soon!

My GP gave me suppositories and ointment (proctosedyl, I think) and it took a while to completely go away, but worked. I'd use both (although I was reluctant!). Also, take lactulose as well (and in the mean time) to ease the pain and anxiety around opening your bowels. I sympathise, I actually found them worse than 2nd stage of labour! GOod luck!.

I second the suppositories squishy mentioned. Stay away from white bread, cheese and chocolate and drink loads of water, it will help. Stay away from hot baths it will only swell them more.
I remember when I was half way through my last pregnancy and had a really sore one so went to my female GP. She examined me - you know knees up under your chin effect... only for her to say gosh I'm not really the expert on haemorrhoids I'll have to get one of the guys to have a look!!! I was going to her because I was avoiding baring all to my regular GP whom I know quite well, you try telling yourself its their job, but its damn embarassing, so sort it out before you have to bare all!!!

knittingtinsel · 11/01/2007 10:22

I had what I think was some sort of ultrasound treatment from a physio whilst on the post natal ward. He brought along a gadget, plugged it into the bedside socket and gently applied a probe of some sort around the affected region. Took about 5/10 mins

Weird and highly embarassing but it did help.

Might be worth investigating via your GP.
